One more question about the taking the sway bar off. Does it matter how many miles your truck has? Just wondering since I have 238,300 miles. I know the suspension is only a year or two old. But is taking the sway bar off going to affect other parts of the front end that might be worn? I mean I keep up on maintenance, I have replaced the rack & pinion bushings, the UCA's with aftermarket one's which I think is more of a performance upgrade. I also have replaced both CV axles awhile back too but what about other things like, spindles bearings etc.? If they articulate more, will they wear out quicker. Obviously bearings don't articulate but you know what I'm trying to say. I also have 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers. Which I've heard on TW that wheel spacers wear out your bearings quicker anyway. So I guess I answered my own question, screw it! Take it off and go for it!!!

Your suspension is always moving even on a smooth road. Removing the sway isnt really gona make a difference in wear. Wheelspacers will wear out bearings faster but they add 2.5" of width making truck slightly more stable.

    Sicyota04,
    Ditch the sway bar.
While I was IFS, I removed it once I went with ICON extended travel CO's and TC UCA's. Never would've known it was off.
As for wear on other items, I didn't have any issues. The difference in articulation may add stress to your CV's but adding limiting straps will cure that.

I'd be more concerned about the wheel spacers you have.

    Hope this helps.

I just torque down the wheel spacers every time I rotate and balance my tires. Haven't had a problem with them at all.

I know this is a probably a common sense question but, does your truck have to be on the ground to take the sway bar off? Cause I was going to raise my truck up on the lift at my college auto shop to take it off.

    No.
Do the frame connection points 1st.. It will relieve the stress on the link points on the UCA. No safety glasses required.

When you disconnect the frame connection points can you just zip tie the sway bar up temporarily instead of taking it completely off if I decide to put it back on. Kind of like a test drive type of deal with it off to see if that's what I want?

... to try it out, yes.

Trust me... with the suspension indicated in your signature, you'll have zero issues.

With my 3 link SAS, I still do not run a sway bar. The original Toyota 4x4 trucks didn't have'm, so what makes you think you need one now? Only being logical.

Dump it and you'll be happy. If not, put it back on. A twenty minute issue to resolve by yourself.

You people don't seem to understand what a swaY bar does.

Of course you can take it off and not have any issues, because it's designed to prevent your truck from rolling over if you are hard on the brakes and cut the wheel at high speed, as you might need to do in an emergency maneuver. So yeah, unless you're doing emergency maneuvers at highway speeds, you won't notice a negative difference by taking it off, but that doesn't mean "you'll have zero issues". Zero issues with typical use, yes, but it also might get you killed.

Easy there man. You are missing the main point. Either that or you are just trolling.

No one is advocating removing the anti-sway bar on a stock suspension. The truck as it comes from toyota may be equipped with one for safety reasons or more likely for liability reasons.

Regardless, a 12-21 year old truck with worn out stock suspension should definitely still have its bar attached. However, aftermarket suspensions are very different from the stock stuff.

Very well said! I have the Adjustable 5100, Eibach 3" coil lift springs combo. So my springs are super stiff and taking the sway bar off should help immensely with the ride quality as stated in the above comments

It's unsettling to see unsafe info propogated like this. As you say stiffer springs and struts are an improvement over stock and worn assemblies, but they're still not a sway bar.

A sway bar provides a hard limit to the possible difference in flex between the front wheels. Without this it's possible for an emergency maneuver to produce enough angular momentum to cause a roll over -- which is already made worse by the fact that our trucks are lifted and have a higher center of gravity.

Again, yes a fresh or stiffer suspension is better than nothing but its not the same thing as, and not equivalent to, a sway bar in any way. It's important for people to have the right info.

We're not talking about something trivial like throttle body spacer increasing performance. We are talking about a SAFETY feature.
