So I've already had one miserable failure at this, and after properly preparing I'm ready for round two... Do the gauge cluster rings pop off without disassembling the dash on a 2011?

Thanks, I got all the pieces done, although the wheel emblem looks kind of bad, as the paint didn't adhere quite right. But I'll pop it off and go again here in a few days. I am still curious if on a 2011 if I need to remove my dash in order to remove my gauge rings?

I think I've read that you can, but it's just so easy to take the dash piece off.

SEM Color Coat vinyl and plastic paint is great for painting your interior if you choose to do something like a complete interior color change. I come from the VW world, and that paint is a popular choice for people who want to change the color of their dashboard and interior pieces. If you clean and prep the surfaces correctly and lay the paint well, you'll never know it was painted and it will be nearly as durable as the factory plastics.

So fucking true. lol Ive been painting like crazy because its the cheapest mods that i can do at the moment. Im about to start Painting my interior tomorrow. the whole center console. I currently waiting on my black okole seat covers and console cover. I also ordred extra neoprene for the door armrests so everything will match. Then I also will have a bunch of the plastic pieces carbon fiber wrapped. Thank you for your write up, im glad i found this before i actually started. Ill stop by the store tomorrow.

But i have a few questions if you could answer them please.

    - did you bake the center console peices? Which pieces did you bake?
-Where can you find the SEM Paint?
-How Has it held up in the high traffic areas?
-Did you use different paints for the shifter and the floor center console? If so, what paints?

Ill post pictures when i get a chance

    Hey buddy.

I don't think I baked any of the interior pieces that were painted with SEM or flat paint. I think I only baked the gloss pieces. Just remember to fog a bunch of coats of paint on to get even coverage. Don't try to get all your painting done in 2 coats. Just leave them in the sun to "cure"

I think SEM has links on their website to local retailers or you could probably buy it on Amazon. Remember to buy some adhesion promoter as well.

The SEM holds up great! The only problem areas I have are where I painted the chrome shifter bezel white. Some of that has chipped off. Also the flat black krylon has been scratched a bit by my dog so I just colored in the chips with a sharpie.

If I could do it all over again, I would just use SEM black on everything I painted black. You'll have to use Krylon or another brand for the gloss trim pieces.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Ya I'm going to be putting 4-5 light coats on of the SEM paint. And if I can't find that then I will have to go with the duplicolor vinyl which I hope I don't have to.

    - how long did you allow these pieces to dry before putting back on?

    - you said you would even use the SEM on the shifter piece? I was thinking that the flat black would have worked well?

Thanks for your awesome write up too!
