I appreciate the advice! I have owned two white vehicles and this is my first black one, so I'm kind of a noob. I knew that black cars look dirty more easily but wasn't aware that there is more maintenance required to maintain the paint than other colors.

No worries, my last two commuter cars were white and I loved it. White hides almost everything. After a couple years if you notice swirls it's pretty easy to take them out with a high speed buffer and some polishing compound. That's a whole other YouTube series though.

Avoid the ones with big dirty (I mean, how can they not be dirty?) brushes or mops that rub on your paint. That IMO causes the worst kind of swirling. You're going to end up with some mild swirling with hand washing eventually too, unless you coat the thing in one of the modern high tech coatings when the paint is perfect (which is why proper application of those products calls for a paint correction first).

    Late to game, I know.

My wife and I purchased a white 40th Anniversary 4Runner back in late November. Traded it in 10 days ago for a black one! 32C273C1-257E-4502-8DD0-83C30C9011D5.jpg37138BBC-DACD-4C79-B508-9992B5FD91DF.jpg

Damn, that's lucky! Not sure how many dealers are getting down there but up here only one unit allocated per dealer. Not even sure if we'll see another one let alone be able to trade for color preference.

The Toyota dealer in Ann Arbor wanted $10G's over MSRP. I told them they could pound sand and luckily have a local dealer that charged MSRP.

My wife preferred the black. Our local dealer received a white one. We were also told they were only allocated one and that the chances of getting the black one were slim none, so we bought it. The week of Christmas, the black one showed up. I was told that SET (South Eastern Toyota) offered the black one to our dealership only because it was available. When my wife saw it, she was fuming! I told my salesman about her being mad and he made the deal happen. The salesman (sold me and family four other new Toyota vehicles in the last couple of years) was great! It was almost a dead even swap! I put 1100 miles on the white one before we traded it. Couldn’t be happier.

The state fair last October had a pair of 40th 4Rs on display. Those, the Bronco display, and the new Grand Wagoneer were the only vehicles within 277 acres that warranted a second look last year, though not for the same reasons. (One of those earned a "what the hell is even that?" )

I liked the trim on the 4R. Neat looking vehicle.

Removing the stripes will remove resale value. This trim will hold its value really well in the future as anything Toyota special edition limited numbers does.
