Hey guys, I'm new to TW so please direct me to the thread if one already exists, but I couldnt find one that was what I'm looking for. I'm considering buying a set of TRD five stars off a 15' Tacoma. I just recently bought an 03' Tacoma and the wheels are a great design no doubt, but 13 years of the previous owner never cleaning them has done its damage and the wheels I'm considering are a great deal and relatively close.

I'm hoping someone on here has some experience having done this to their 1st gen Taco and could offer some advice and/or pictures of the finished product! Thanks guys

I used to have a set. They look great on 1st gens. They were fine with 265/70r16's but I got frame rub when I switched to 235/85r16's. I solved the issue by switching to 3rd gen 4Runner wheels which have less backspacing.

i just switched to a tundra 16" rim after having a 2nd gen taco rims for a few years. frame rubbing really gets old after a while.
the offset is just 1/2 difference but the rubbing can get real bad.

Thanks guys! All of your replies have been very helpful. Im not sure how to tag people in my posts, but DJB1 , After seeing your truck with the 3rd gen 4Runner 5-spoke wheels, I'm sold. Now I've just got to find some!

    None...yet

There is a place called ACI in AZ here, they can easily recondition your wheels for about $25 a wheel, back to new looking.

    Food for thought

I cleaned my 4Runner wheels with brake clean and a wire wheel. It got the rubber residue off the inside lip of the wheels fast and easy. I didn't care if it ruined the original finish because I intended to paint them anyway. I used Rustoleum self-etching primer and gloss white paint. It was a great match with Toyota Super White.
