Did a search and couldn't find anything. Has anyone on here done a rear diff pinion depth adjustment? Took a quick look on alldata and it says that you need a specialty tool for this. Any way around this? I have a whining noise coming from the diff on deceleration and a decent amount of backlash on the drive shaft so I'm guessing that this is the problem.

If you don't already know how to do it - then chances are, you should leave the job to a professional. Do some research on google - you'll find write-ups about setting up gears.

Read this - you'll get an idea of how in-depth the job really is.

As for a gear whine - when was the last time you changed/checked your rear differential fluid? Did you check your u-joints? When was the last time you lubricated your u-joints on the driveshaft?

If you have that much play in the driveline - setting the pinion deeper is not gonna solve the problem. The ring gear will have as much 'wear' on the teeth as the pinion will. They both need changed.

How much play do you have?
