Personally. I'm not a dog lover.

I'm also not a cat lover.

I'm a damn dirty animal lover.

And not in that way that gets you 3-5.

Thanks. Some nice looking dogs you are bringing up there also. I've been debating on getting another Sorrell, but I work away alot and my GF couldn't handle the dog I want. I'd like to get the next one into sled pulling, my Bailey doesn't have enough drive yet, but she is still young.

I'd love to see some pics. My Bailey's Sire was also named Bailey
    Here he is

I posted pics of my friends pit on page 1 of this thread (chopper, the white & brown guy). I took him in a few weeks ago because she moved into an apartment and couldnt keep him there. He is loving his new place here, and is getting along just fine with the girlfriends cats :D

Since we all are putting our two cents in on this one, here's mine:

I believe that Pitts are exceptionally loyal, loving dogs to their own family. They are also exceptionally protective of their family. That can be good, and potentially bad, depending on the situation.

I also believe that it is really hard to undo the dog aggressive traits that were bred into them for so long. There is no way I would let a dog that I owned anywhere near a Pitt.

Finally, whether or not any one dog owner recognizes it, all dogs have their limits. I have watched a very gentle yellow lab put up with a seven year old kid harrassing it for an extended period of time. The dog then issued a warning to the kid in the form of a very low growl that was barely heard from five feet away. The kid (my cousin) did not recognize that warning. Luckily, I did. I am convinced that a child would have been bitten if I had not intervened. There is no way I would allow a child to play with any dog without supervision.

What makes Pitts more dangerous overall is that if and when they snap, they are very powerful and probably less likely to back down.

Its all in how they are raised! My sister has a Stapshire Terrier (sp?) and she is very sweet she is quite hyper but once you get her settled down she is very sweet and docile.

This is my first pit (mix) but I think from now on I will always have one. She has more character and personality than any other dog I've ever had. I could go on and on about the breed but I think everyone on this thread knows exactly what type of dogs they really are.
    Here she is.

Total misconception. I was one with this misconception. BTW, there are like 5 breeds that they won't insure under home owners insurance, Pit, German Shepard, Chow, ...

Did you know that Ceaser's (Dog Whisper) side kick is a pit bull. Doubt he would have it around if it was dangerours. And think about a large breed dog in general, if any of them turn on you it is going to hurt. It is all about the environment and the training.

What changed my mind from being scared of a pit bull near a child, my oldest daugther getting one at 6 weeks and raising/training it to be gentle and obedient. I have no problem letting my 6 and 4 year olds around the dog. And what really changed me was keep the dog for 10 days for my daughter while she was out of town. I have had a german shepard too. And if either one of these was going to turn the damage would be the same. Again, it is all about the training.

Pitts are GREAT dogs. I never really cared for them before. I was at my moms house a LONG time ago and her next door neighbor had this beautiful brindle pitt puppy in the backyard. It was obvious it was being neglected and that the guy didn't really want it. So I took some dog food and reached over the wall and fed it all the time. It was a good tempered dog. But this was in the AZ summer and I never saw a bowl of water. Called humane society and they never came out. A week later I went back to my moms and saw it dead under the patio. Sad. I should have just taken the dog from him. Come to find out the dog was dumped on the guy by his friend who never came by to pick it up. Still shitty.

This was the last anyone saw of him. Looks like she was licking him but she was actually tasting him.

My dogs are DA (dog aggressive) you just have to take the time to understand their triggers and if any which dogs they won't tollerate. My 2 males cannot be togeher, however they can both be with my female. My female only has issues with larger female dogs. She loves large male dogs and all small dogs. None of my animals are ever unsuperivsed when not in their designated areas.

Here's my killer after eating 3 small children and an ostrich. Seriously though my Bella loves all animals, she once caught a rabbit, sat there and licked it until I told her to leave it and it ran away. I HATE when pits get a bad rep. for a few bad owners.
