base coat down, a little streaky due to not full coverage and being a wuss as far as laying it down "wet". Plus I only have 1 gallon of the base because I already have a dipped paint job, and I was being a cheapass. Hopefully the 2 gallons of the top coat will cover fine.
I need to wait a couple hours to sand down a spot, something got in my way and I held the gun in one spot for too long. Best not to get distracted and focus only on spraying. If you need to stop just stop and readjust your shit.

Tried to sand the runny spot a bit and then put down top coat layer 1. Turned out pretty well, few spots I wasn't liberally applying enough, I also can still see the one runny spot after applying a fresh layer. Probably will fix that and a few other little areas and finish tomorrow.

I'm just gonna call it now - 2 gallons on the final color is not enough for a 1st gen taco. I used almost an entire gallon on a single coat, and still don't have 100% coverage.

I think if I didn't need to touch up areas, it would have BARELY been enough, but the touchups may require more than one coat to fully cover, and at that point I will need another gallon to make the paint look uniform. So I ordered another gallon, just to be safe. Truck might not be totally done for a bit. Not a big deal as there is grocery store within biking distance. The extra gallon will be good to have around for other touchups down the road which are inevitable anyways.

Just need to do a little detail work with the xacto knife now, and then add some stickers and it will be finished!

Mostly finished, just need to dip the flares black again and re-install them.

Flares not done yet but pulled the truck out of the garage to paint them in there.

Someone asked me how long this whole process took so I figured I'd post here also:

I would say 3-4 days of a few hours per day. If you wanted to work non-stop, you could probably get it done in 2 days.

Day 1: wash the shit out of the truck. That's it.
Day 2: Spent a couple hours masking off the windows and stuff. Thankfully with dip, you don't have to mask it off exactly right as it will pull right off most weather stripping and stuff, save for the occasional need for an xacto knife where the dip will bridge between weather stripping and the body. You can also try to tape it off exactly right and then pull it up when the dip is still wet, if bridging is a concern.
Day 3: Finished masking and then sprayed with Pre-Dip spray.
Day 4: Laid down the coats (I had to order another gallon of the final color, so I had to wait almost a week after this. 3 gallons of final color recommended). You only need to wait about 30 minutes between coats. Stuff dries hella fast. Then I pulled the tape off.
Day 5: Spray down the truck with Dip Coat, dipped the flares and reattached and put Dip Coat on those too.

This was me spending basically half days working on it, so if you did it all day, 2-3 days max. I just preferred not to rush it. My work tends to get worse as I get tired and annoyed lol

I pulled the dip off my fender flares and after 5 years of being dipped, I saw no degredation to the paint underneath. Just as long as you use a basic color for your base coat, I do not think you will have any issues with the factory paint.

These are factory color matched black sand pearl fender flares

I then re-dipped them with 8 cans of black plastidip lol

Sub, did you get your dip from dipyourcar? I was going to ask about inside the doors but you covered that. I wonder how hard it would be to mask that.

Yup, I got everything from DYC. I'd recommend following their FB page or email list and wait for at least a 20% off sitewide sale to buy everything.

I bet a quick wipedown with some dip dissolver would take care of the door overspray, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Looks great. Nice job . That stuff is so versatile and easy to work with. Works well on faded interior pieces on old cars too.

Another thread revive. How does this product hold on scratches? Specifically trail run scratches from trees and such.
    @ThunderOne

Edit: I read the first post.
Next questions, how does it hold with pressure washer. Let's say 1200PSI.

How much product did you use?
    Which gun did you use?

I used dipyourcar spray gun, making sure to watch the maintenance and cleaning videos they uploaded first so I knew what to watch out for. Pressure washer is fine, I use an electric one on mine all the time with 1600psi or so and the yellow intermediate nozzle (I believe 15 degrees). Just watch any areas that might start lifting. If you blast those at close range you may have a bad time.

For my first dip job I used 2 black and 2 antracite. That seemed to cover good enough and I miraculously must not have missed any spots.

My second dip job I used 1 gallon of avalanche grey and 3 gallons of space grey. After using almost the entire 2nd gallon of finish color, I still noticed I missed spots and needed a third gallon to do a full spray on the entire truck one more time. I would recommend probably 2 gallons of base and 3 of finish color for a second gen.
