    In my past experience I have seen a lot of rot under the plastic bed liners. I am considering having the plastic liner removed from my 2016 and having a line-x liner sprayed on. Anyone have any opinions of this? Personally I hate the plastic liner for 2 reasons;

    1. Stuff slides around in the truck bed.
    2. the drain holes are small and it holds water for too long.

I dont know if the drain holes are in the same place as the actual bed drain holes but I would assume they are. Even if they are this is where the water will get between the plastic liner and the painted surface.

This would be impossible, as the bed itself is a molded piece of plastic. There is no metal bed underneath. If you look in the rear wheel wells at the underside of the bed, you'll see (and feel) that it is all plastic. Hope this helps!

The advantage Toyota has is the entire bed is made of composite material. No steel to get rusted and dented. and much lighter as well than steel with a liner or spray on liner.

Buy a Bed mat to keep things from sliding around.

Can a bed liner be sprayed on the plastic bed?

OK.... your post made me go outside and check and I have to thank you from the land of the uninformed. Now I feel dumb enough to take this thread away....

My objection 1 still stands to the plastic bedliner though. What is under it, does anyone know?

Mechanical components are under the bed... same as a standard metal bed.
As some of the other helpful posters have noted, the composite bed is a one-piece construction. If something happens to the bed, the entire thing can be replaced.

Sorry, I should have elaborated. If you remove the plastic liner and expose the FRP bed does it have a contour like a metal bed or is it just flat and the contour comes from the liner?

I hate plastic liners also. But it is solid, no liner. A $100 bed mat is cheaper than a $500 spray liner. Buy a bed mat

Yes, no plastic liner. If you DO remove the plastic "liner", you will have removed the bed. You then have a bedless truck

I'd like to say I'm new at this but I cant. I I had a 2011 with the same bed and never paid attention. I figured it was a cheap plastic liner over a metal bed like the Tundra......

I had nothing but plastic liners in my big trucks. Self adhesive non skid strips solved the sliding around and industrial velcro at the end of the bed deck where it meets the tailgate substantially helped with items washing back up under the liner. Im not a fan of spray in because it adds weight.

The 2011 probably DID have the metal bed underneath. The 100% composite bed is new to the '16 Taco, if I am not mistaken...

hey gromit16 ... ever see the bed a few folks have manufactured out of pressure treated wood. If done right, it looks pretty good.

No, composite bed started in '05 with the 2nd gen. '16 3rd gen beds are, for all intents and purposes, the same as 2nd gen.

OP, don't feel too stupid. When I was working my deal on a '16, and the salesman was checking my truck out, he said nice bedliner. I told him it was in fact the bed, and not a liner. He argued with me for a few minutes before consulting a mechanic, then just felt like a complete idiot. I smiled and laughed.
