Just got trans back in after replacing clutch, pressure plate, pilot & throwout bearings. Wanted to test before complete reassembly. The release bearing arm has a lot of play.
Should the pressure plate be pushing the throwout bearing back or is there a spring that pulls it back. I hate to pull the trans again but I think I already know the answer.

There should be some play until you bleed the slave cylinder

But shouldn’t the slave be fully retracted by pressure from the release bearing arm? Then it extends as pedal is pushed. Bleeding won’t help.

Yes and no. Think Master cylinder after you install new brakes. Even though there is no air in the system there's no pressure. Mine did the same thing until I bled it

So what retracts the throwout bearing? The master/slave just applies pressure to extend it.

The pressure retracts it but the matter cylinder pain isn't big enough to move the slave completely through its travel. Maybe 1/2 inch it moves, the slave piston can move about 1.5 inches. That's how it self adjusts for clutch wear

Maybe I’m over thinking this. Just hate to get it put all together & have a problem. Trying to test it first.

It's called a "Clutch Fork" (not throwout bearing arm but that's close enough) And the pressure plate pushes the throwout bearing back the majority of the travel and there's a small spring to pull the clutch fork back the last bit of travel.

Well, you were right. It is working fine. On to my next issue. There are 2 identical two wire blue connectors. This may sound really stupid but I can only find a place to connect one of them. Did I disconnect both? Shit, I dont remember but it looks clean like it was connected to something. Reverse lights work but dont get 4wd indicator on dash.
Where is the switch for 4wd? Ive looked all over the transfer case & trans but cant find a switch looking for a connector.

The two that look the same I believe are 4wd and 4 low indicator plugs

Didnt realize there was 1 for each. Do you know where the 2 sensors are? It seems like it would be obvious but I cant find the 2nd one.

They are both behind the t case shifter. One on the left, one on the right.

If you have ADD there is a similar switch on the front diff actuator that confirms it's actually engaged.

Maybe lo was never connected. Swapped connectors and dash indicator comes on in 4 hi. Nothing different when in 4lo but 4lo does work. 78BCE180-7190-4D92-B53A-C6955F91295A.jpg

I really appreciate the help. It’s my son’s taco. I’m still old school. 43014473-97FB-4CB8-92B2-5D950BFDB45B.jpg
