Well, I just ran down to the driveline shop, he can build me a solid aluminum driveshaft for $568 out the door installed. He has all the materials and can have it done in one day, Is aluminum the way to go??

Single cardan or double cardan? I'm _guessing_ that what you want at this point is to go to a double-cardan shaft with a CV joint, and then have the rear axle shimmed so the pinion is at a zero degree angle to the driveshaft.

Google aluminum vs. steel driveshaft. Aluminum looks cool, and the reduced weight would certainly help in reducing vibration.

But I'd be a bit concerned about durability. The one shop I found advocating aluminum said they don't guarantee their aluminum shafts against twist, the way they do their steel ones.

I guess the question is: how much off-roading are you planning on doing? It might not be the best choice for that. Ask the shop about it.

Also, make sure that they guarantee their driveshaft to solve your take-off-shudder. If it doesn't they should return your vehicle to stock and refund your money. Tom Woods does this via mail-order; but the disadvantage with a mail-order shaft is you don't get the experts putting the shaft in and setting up the shaft alignment and pinion angle for you.

Bottom line: about $600 isn't a bad price to pay to get the problem solved well and once and for all.

Man I sure wish i had asked all these questions or had you there with me today... So i'm going to call him back to ask his some things. I won't be doing to much off roading just the occasional Pismo trips, an a little fire roads in the mountains to get to where we ride our dirt bikes. I would think an aluminum shaft would be fine for me, being that is what comes on the full size Chevy, Fords ect...

    What should i ask him??
-Single cardan or double cardan w/a CV joint?? What does my 2010 DC short bed have now?
-Anything else i should ask or mention to him in regards to the driveshaft to help with my decision?

Alot less clearance with a 1 piece driveshaft, not sure if you lowered your carrier bearing or not but beefedtaco makes a couple different height drops to help lessen the angle.

The existing shaft is single cardan.

A double cardan with a CV joint should theoretically be able to run at a higher angle without vibrations. (the shorter front driveshaft is double cardan.)

I think the most important single question is "if you can't solve my problem will you put my original driveshaft back on and refund my
    money?"

    Everything else is secondary.

Yes that is a good question, I think has was talking about using something from my driveline and building from that.. the piece he was talking about i cant remember? But i think it was the piece that goes or mates to the tranny... Could it of been the CV joint? So if he was to use something from my existing driveline to make the new one, it might not be able to go back to stock. Hmmmm?

At this point I have to simply answer "I don't know."
