Hello so without going into to much detail I bought a truck with cash that had a fake title and was financed. I still have the truck and haven’t heard from anyone as far as the bank wanting it back but they also won’t talk or work with me or the cops. Any ideas on what I should do with the truck?

In CA that could fall into a civil-court issue; used vehicle is a used vehicle but the fake title thing is criminal so maybe the DA would entertain it as fraud.

Hope it works out for you.

well it's not your truck so don't do anything with it. It belongs to someone that isn't you, whether it's stolen or a shitty son that took it from his old grandma doesn't matter. Usually these are rental vehicles that a fake title is made for but nonetheless return it to whoever it belongs to.

Find the person that sold it to you, pursue legal action. They have your money.

Was the person who sold it to you the same one that financed it?
Was it stolen or sold with a fake title to hide the bank's lien?

The bank has always had lien, they should have the actual title. Call the bank and explain what happened and see what they want to do before they report it stolen then you may in big trouble. You’ll probably gonna have to take the guy to court to try and recoup your money. What a mess.

dude you really need to post up the whole story because now the story is that the guy sold it before the bank could put a lien on the title.

So was a completely fake car title or just one that the guy sold without the lien being represented on it?(i.e. had the title, got another replacement title, submitted one to get a quick car title loan against it, cashed that, sold the truck with the clean but obsolete title)

or at least so that we can learn from this experience and not let it happen to someone else! New scams pop up everyday and it'll benefit everyone to know what to keep an eye out for.

Next question. Did you finance it or pay cash for it? How did you pay? Do you have any way of contacting the person you "purchased" it from? Anything preventing you from immediately going to the police with this?

The title is likely real but sent to the guy who sold you the truck and signed over that title to you. He was supposed to hand it over to the bank.

The last several vehicles we financed, the title was sent to us first. Some sort of new method the State uses, I assume. The bank called us looking for it when it was sent.

I'm going w/ the truck is legally yours, you paid for it and received title, and the bank is gonna have to go to the original owner for the money they lent him and never received the title/collateral.

Unless of course, the title you received is in fact fake.

i payed cash, the title was a photocopy of the real one that was originally issued, he is in the wind but we know who he is. he lives in another state. he IS the person who at least co-signed for the truck. Ive already gone to the police and they have been zero help other than telling me the truck and title are what they say they are and everything is legit in that department. it is also not registered as stolen. problem is i can not register it obviously so its just been sitting in my garage for 2 months.
