Your screwed. It was not his truck not sell so you don’t legally own it. Time to contact a lawyer. Leave it parked in the garage until a lawyer gives you advice on how to proceed. You more than likely will have to turn the truck over and sue the guy that sold it.

Anyone who would transact on a photocopy of a title is nuts.

Which is it? In the wind or just not local? Mutually exclusive terms

Oh. So that makes the photocopy component of the transaction even more sketchy.

Your nagging cough suggests you are knowingly in this up to your eyeballs.

If you're looking for someone here to toss a rope in a hole you dug, don't hold your breath.

If you actually dummied up enough to sign up for what you thought was going to be a legit deal, you'll need an attorney to bail you out. And next time you buy a vehicle, take someone with you who knows how the process actually works.

And another option. Thanks for starting a Friday dumpster fire on Wed. Short work week for lots of folks here pre-holiday.

Heres a stupid question. Did you at least leave a message on the dudes answering machine, like "come get this truck and give me my money back before I go to the cops"?

Either you got swindled or you are in on the scam. Regardless, you're in a bad situation... Assuming you got swindled, how did the seller convince you to conduct the transaction using a photocopy of the title? Is this the first time you've purchased a vehicle from a private party? What did you end up paying for the truck?

The first thing you're going to want to do is stuff the biggest set of tires you can fit on the stock suspension of that new truck. Then start looking at some OV Tune options to get that dog rolling right. Use the search bar here for a ton of info on both.

Seriously though dude, you need to contact an attorney ASAP. If it is what you say it is, then the guy committed fraud, and you might be able to get a judgement against him for some or all of the money he stole from you. Hiding the truck in your garage isn't going to make the problem go away.

I had to do this once, 15 years ago or so when I was 19. Stupidly bought an old '85 Yota 4x4 pickup off the local classifieds for $500 (should've been my first clue), it was a total POS and the guy selling it was a big time tweaker. But, I was young and dumb and thought I could get it running and make it my offroad toy. Long story short, it turned out to be stolen, then recovered, then stolen again and had basically dropped off the grid a few years before I bought it. Getting it running proved to be impossible for me and I didn't have the money at the time to go through whatever process would have been needed to make it legal (if any).

Ended up selling it to some guy on Yotatech as a parts only truck for $300 lol. He had a few Toyota buggys and probably chopped it up to feed those things. Was a good lesson for 19 year old me I guess.

Definitely not as rough as this one the OP is going through though.

OP, so you've had the truck for 2 months sitting in your garage and you still haven't came up with anything better than a cough and maybe recoup some lost funds? ......genuinely curious not trying to be a dick....
