I mean OP is viewing this thread but isn't posting in it. Dude just give us the whole story, seems too much like a coincidence that a month and a half ago you were theoretically trying to figure out how to swap parts from a totaled truck into a not totaled truck and now you post this thread where you again somehow have another sketchy truck situation.

this is the internet, we won't judge.

Obviously I didn’t know it was a photocopy! Everyone including dmv and cops said the same thing that it looked completely legit. The cops were involved a few days after.... he had a burner phone and no one we’ve been able to contact in his home state has been helpful. I’ve been in sit and wait mode ( what the lead investigator told me to do) but literally nothing has come from it. I realize I fucked up and totally expected the trolling but also looking for a few helpful posts as well. I’ve got a 35k truck I don’t own but no one seems to want ( bank, cops, repo, seller)

I knew I was fucked and was weighing options. I figured it would be resolved by now and I’m getting desperate.

Yep until we know if it’s criminal or civil there isn’t much we can pursue.

I’d love it if someone from the bank who holds the title would work with me at all but they won’t tak to me or the police about anything at all. I’d be willing to actually buy it! Anyone have any ideas on who I can call to talk about this with capital one?

You said you've had it a couple of months right? So the guy who skipped town would theoretically be behind on two of his loan payments? How many payments can someone miss before a bank repo's the rig? Maybe they won't even dive into this until he's behind on the loan enough to initiate their repossession process. I dunno man, this thing is pretty fucky, and I don't think you are going to find an answer here because I doubt anyone has been through the same thing. I hope the bank recognizes that you got screwed too and tries to work something out, but a betting man would put his money on the bank collecting their collateral and moving on. They can just repo the truck and wash their hands of it, but obviously it's harder for you. Sucks dude, good luck.

that's interesting, even though you told them you have the truck in your possession and they are the lien holders they won't communicate? Hell they aren't even interested in coming to pick it up? At which point will you know whether it is criminal or civil? When law enforcement gets back to you?

Be sure to document everything you have been attempting to do in terms of filing reports, phone calls made (when, to who, who you talked to, what was discussed, etc.), emails sent, any correspondence really. The last thing you need is for the rightful owner to report it stolen (because he's a shitty person) and you have it sitting in your garage.

Unfortunately if no one is dead or injured law enforcement usually pushes it to the bottom of the caseload so it may be a while

The bank probably won't start repossession proceedings until the loan is 90-120 past due. That's when it becomes a target for the repo man.

OP, you need a lawyer that will be able to have productive conversations with both the police to see what is happening with the fraud case, the lender about what should happen with their asset, and initiate a civil case against the seller. TW can't help you other than memes and bad ideas.

Scammer "sold" (not really) a vehicle that was not really his. I probably missed it, what does he owe on it?

I dont think he did any actual time other than holding for processing a d maybe a couple of weeks in county. Pretty sure he got probation only, as I think his total take from the bank was $700.00.
