I thought I had read on here somewhere that there is a plug above the headliner, near the rearview mirror. Am I remembering right? I know I could just go out and start digging, but I really don't want to start pulling down the headliner if there's no reason.

Second, I wonder if that plug could be used to power a dashcam...seems like it would be very handy.

I got this idea from a thread on the "main board" that turned out was for a 3rd gen. Someone has made an adapter that plugs into the back of the mirror and pulls the 5V for a USB power supply. And it sparked my memory (what I think is a memory :) ) about our trucks.

    Thoughts....ideas...etc?

Don't pull the headliner down. You just need to remove the storage/map lights console.

Is there a mirror/dashcam available to make for a cleaner installation?

I have no idea. I don't have a dashcam. I do have a radar detector, back up cam display and remote start antenna all mounted around the mirror.
Take down the OH onsole and A pillar trim and it's easy to get wires run.

Thanks for that. Looks much easier than the dig and pull method I was picturing.

So glad I didn't go pulling things apart. That sounds much easier.

Wondering the same. Like I said, they make one for the 3rd gens...you would think someone would have come up with something to tap the 3-5 volts out of one of the plugs up there...considering anyone that wants a dashcam usually wants it high on the windshield...and would be willing to pay for a plug and play method to get power up there vs running it from below and trying to hide it. If I can find parts, I may try to make something up (unless I find something already made)...first step would be find the plug that is already there, and it's counterpart so power can be tapped off somewhere in the middle of the 2.

The search begins.............................uh.....sometime...maybe this evening :).

    Thanks everyone.

Depending on the dash cam you may want constant power (the wires powering the homelink should provide this). I just ran a new power wire since my dashcam is wired to the stereo and I had to run that wiring anyway.

I'd prefer constant power. So the homelink power is part of the plug above the upper console? I'm going to grab the tester and get that plug down sometime and start testing things, but it might eliminate some of the trial and error if someone knew what combination of pins provides the constant 12V....or even better, if it's up there...constant 5V.

There's constant power for the map lights

 That's right. Completely skipped my thinking on that one. Add in a USB adapter/converter/whatever the hell, and it should put out the 5V needed. Can't believe I didn't think of that lol...................well....maybe I can believe it a little.

    Thank you, sir.
