POLL: For those who have DTRL and its melting your lights.

I think in 2012 they changed the design and you can leave your DRL on all the time without damage. The reason I went to DRL is because I "T-boned" a vehicle at 55 mph years ago. It was a perfectly clear day and with no other traffic or obstructions and some dude just pulled out in front of me. I knew this dude was going to die as I had the brakes locked up heading toward him. Fortune smiled and he only got a small head goober and I got shoulder rash from the belt but did have to eat the air bag. I think this could have been avoided if my vehicle had DRL's. Turn you DRL's on dude.

 

My 09 with 121,000 miles has melted the lens to the point it has split in half. I only have two wires going to the socket. The poll don't have the option for damaged lens.
I also have severe sun damage of the lens for the headlight itself, so I was planing on buying some aftermarket lights from rock auto. I doubt I could get any warranty coverage. Heck my truck has never been back to the dealer since the day I bought it.

Led bulbs are the way to go a lot less heat for the same lumens

 

I bought some LEDs from O'reilly, They blew a fuse instantly. took them back and never went any further.

 

If you have dtrl you have to buy 3157 ck bulbs for front

 

I'll keep that in mind when I replace the whole assembly.

 

Ck 3157 bulb wiring configuration has + on one side and - on the other rather than the normal 3157 criss cross so when you insert normal 3157 bulb it shorts out.

 

I would take it to the dealer and see if they will replace them.

 

When I took my truck in they told me the parts would take anywhere from a few days to a month to come in. When I hadn't heard anything after almost 5 weeks I called them... and they said "oh yeah, the parts are in".

 

They should replace them. The mileage makes no difference. And it's worth getting it done because you'll end up with shiny new headlight assemblies. Just don't wait too long... I believe the replacement offer ends in November . . .

 

If it's a clear day an some idiot is not able to see my big wall of SuperWhite coming I don't think he will notice the 2 yellow dots either.

 

Just stopped by the dealer, The first guy says, I've never seen that before I don't what we can do for you. I say, could you atleast look for a TSB? After some looking he says, sorry no luck. Then out of nowhere he runs it past the guy next to him. This guy says, yes there is a TSB on that look it up.

So he finds the TSB and it has a 3 year 36,000 mile limit. so no help. but he did want me to leave my truck so they could trim my gas pedal. I said no thanks.

The TSB on the DRL lens is T-SB-0129-11

So, it's back to Rock Auto for new headlight assemblies.

 

No no no! I have the recall document somewhere. I'll find it and post... but it may be tomorrow since I'm at my office now.

 

I found the recall letter in a post that I made here in July of last year. Look at the attachment and print it for your dealer. The way I read it the primary coverage is through November 2015, regardless of mileage.

I called Toyota Motor Sales, They declined to cover my truck do to, Manufacture location or manufacture date or several other variables.

Guess I'm back to, No Luck!

 

Tsb and recall two different things. I will look on web and see if there is a recall

 

It is probably a silent recall where they can cover it if they want too. For good customers or someone who bought it at that dealer

I was told by the Toyota tech that the replacement units come with all new bulbs. Are the new bulbs LED?
