She was towing a horse trailer on the highway when her truck broke down. It was taking the dealer a really long time to get the truck running again, hence the "lemon law".

Someone else probably remembers the details better- I don't tow and am not a mechanic.

Her account disappeared towards the end of the "buy back" process with Toyota, I think.

The poll looks pretty accurate to me. Squeaky wheels losing by a wide margin. :D

Anyone here believe Toyota is the only manufacturer around who's ever had a car or truck lemon lawed?

They all do. That's why there are lawyers that specialize in it.

So approximately 15% of folks polled are having issues that Corporate has failed to resolve or have gone down the path of having Toyota Buy Back or Lemon the truck? That's a pretty high percentage, no? Realize this is just a forum poll and it's only been out for a limited time.

Agreed smitty. Hopefully this will be a good thread for supporting members that are having a difficult time resolving their issues. Perhaps they can find a meaning path to resolution.

Depends on the issue, they can file a complaint with corporate about something that may not have a solution available yet, differential noise and squeaky leafs come to mind right now. They might also file complaints about a transmission to be fixed because they dont like how it operates, not that its failed. How do you fix that?

AFAIK even brand new part replacements (diff and leafs) are exhibiting the same symptoms but not failures in almost all cases so like it or not, it's a characteristic of the truck. Poor characteristics I agree but it's what's available now, not failing but not perfect either.

I agree with your statements. I, personally, would like to see a little more kaisen with our transmissions and rear axles. Sure, the shifting is characteristic of the current 3rd gen architecture. I accept that. I don't like the 5th and 6th gear ratios, but I accepted them at purchase. I do not accept that my transmission is still flaring when shifting from 3-4 every time I start my truck. As far as the rear axle howling away between 2 very common speeds, I don't accept Toyota's dismissive approach. They could work with the customers a little more. They can solve this.

I am not bashing Toyota alone. This is an industry wide lack of actual customer service.

Until it affects sales or fails, I wouldn't hold my breath. It's pretty much the same mentality with all major manufacturers.

If it becomes that bothersome I'd consider shopping another brand instead.

Shouldn't the poll have another option:

Toyota fixed the problem to my satisfaction.

I like the idea of it, but the results could be confusing. Let me explain. If I went to Toyota with a bad door cup protector, I would expect Toyota to fix it to my satisfaction. This is an easy one, and no one would try a lemon law, a buy back, or a try for a Platinum Waranty if Toyota rejected this repair. The resolutions in my poll come into play with major issues like rear axle howls and transmission problems. Let me think about that a little because your idea has feasibility.

How do I vote if I had a warranty issue that the dealership quickly resolved?
