I am looking to buy some new uca's but don't know if I can justify spending the extra money for uniball types. I will be installing an OME lift with spacers and plan to do some wheeling in the future. I have the DCLB so crawling won't be an option, just some good old driving over rocks to get to a campsite, etc. the truck is my daily driver and I live in CO where we get all four seasons and mag chloride is used on the roads (may be a problem for exposed uniball joints). I have enough money for either, but if I save money on the uca's then I have money for perhaps some skids or something else for the truck. I need help in making a decision!

not that its much help, but i just pulled the trigger on BR UCA's and am also in colorado(summit county). i went with the BR's over Camburg(the group buy) because BR uses a stainless steel uni-ball. Camburg uses a mild steel. Also picked up some dupont teflon spray to keep the uniballs lubed and to repel moisture a bit.

I live in Northern, NM I purchased the the LR UCA's and my alignment guy loved the adjustment he could get out of them. He too owns a tacoma. I am not sure about the Uniballs, but replacement of the mine would be easy.

OME 3" lift with 885 coils. OME Shocks with TSB 1.5 AAL. 285/75/16 KM2s. XD Hoss 16" wheels. DDM Tuning 6000K HIDs, H10 6000K Fogs. BHLM. Debaged. 20% tint on front windows.
Both good options, LR will be better for your set up going with the OME lift IMO.

Thanks guys, but I still have no idea what to do. I've read a lot about squeaking issues on uniball uca', especially during winter. Anybody experience that? Remedies?

Uniballs. Keep them lubed to prevent noises. If they get too dirty and start squeaking anyway, replacing them isn't any worse than standard balljoints.

I beg to differ. My Camburgs with Moog ball joints are bullet proof. No torn boots and they are greasable.

Might as well have a sealed one as a uniball is really only needed for ext travel! With OME, anything will work.

Our newer 05-12 Tacoma arms use a larger 1.25" Aurora HCOM series teflon lined uniball. The ball is heat-treated and hard chrome plated and the race is carbon steel ... pretty standard uniball specs. A stainless version isn't available from Aurora or FK and really not needed. Aurora does offer a heat-treated version of this uniball that we can use if the customer wants it, but it costs a little more and frankly not needed ... maybe in a harsh racing application, but I have a guys racing on the standard ones with no issues.

The BR use a smaller 1" FK uniball, what part # they using, COMH, AIN, WSSX? That will tell you exactly what it is. Their website doesn't mention anything about "stainless" uniballs or the part#.

Our ball-joint arms are great for someone on a budget or not wanting the slightly added maintenance any uniball has compared to the stock ball-joints. Also ALL uniballs can and will make a little noise from time to time, so if that's not an option then ball-joints are a better fit for you.

Just throwing out some info ....

I called Camburg about their ball joint UCAs recently. Apparently the Moogs are too big and Toyota only sells ball joints with new UCAs...can't buy them separate. So unless you plan on removing your factory ball joints this option may not be feasible

Well after all my research I decided to go with light racing ball joint uca's. I couldnt justify the extra $300 for a little extra articulation that is designed for extended travel setups. Plus with all the talk of squeaking, that was the deal breaker. Thanks for the input gentlemen!

Congrats on your purchase, Travis. the redesigned balljoint/boot and the new bushings on the LRs are very nice

just to clarify, light racings work just fine with extended travel.

I think you're ok...I've seen folks successfully install them on the Camburg BJ UCAs. However, apparently some folks have ripped the metal ring in the UCA that holds in the ball joint. If you installed them ok it's safe to say all is good

^ Yeah, that's the first i've ever heard of that. There's member's on here that have done the same thing with zero problems. Hit or miss, i guess...
