Step 1: Buy new shackles from the link below, it's worth the $30 to not mess around with the stock bushing and the metal sleeve that gets stuck inside and is a pita to remove.

    https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-shackle-kit-spring-0400565104

Step 2: Buy new bushings from energy, I have Ome Dakar leafs with poly bushings from energy already installed in the eyes so I only needed the bushings for the shackle to hanger.

The part number for just the bushing is - bulk-02p02843 - You'll need to order 4 of them.
You'll also need 2 of the sleeves -
    bulk-15.10.197.39
Cost was $45 shipped from energy.

If you're installing new leafs, you can just buy the complete kit from energy and it includes bushings for both eyes on the leaf and the shackle.

Once you receive the parts you can begin assembling the bushings into the new shackles and start the install. I decided that it would be a good idea to install some metric m6 zerk fittings so I can easily grease the bushings every oil change. I use the same superlube grease that total chaos recommends for their UCA, that way I only need one type of grease and and one grease gun for all the bushings. I have a separate grease gun with Redline CV-2 for the prop shaft. For the bushings that can't be serviced easily, I use energy suspension lube.

Step 3: Remove your stock shackles and install the new ones. I pumped them with grease once I had the shackles installed with the bolts hand tight.

Step 4: Enjoy! I went wheeling after I installed them so that's why they're dirty. I'm also not worried about the zerk hitting the hanger, the straight zerk doesn't stick out far enough to hit the hanger, 45 and 90 degree zerks are significantly taller so I would advise against those ones. The zerk covers are from Amazon, i put them on every zerk fitting on the truck.

What size zerc did you use? 1/4"-28?
I assume they are self-tappinig, did you use 3/16" drill bit to start?
    Thanks!

I used an M6 zerk since I only have a metric tap set. You can use 1/4-28 if you want, basically the same size. They are not self tapping, you have to tap the hole after you drill it.

Thanks sir. I bought some self tapping zercs. I hope they will work. I may end up getting a small 1/4” anyways

    I bought these:

They're sold individually so you'll need to purchase 2 of them.

How did you insert the bushings into the shackle? I'm having a hell of a time trying to do mine.

Lube them up, press one side in with palm of hand and shackle against tabletop. Flip and do the same for other side. Then get bushing started with twisting motion. Then support shackle on tabletop and smack it with a dead blow

Or squeeze it in with a bench vise

New shackle or old one. My buddy was fighting his and called me. I came over to help and he had drilled out the rubber part but left the metal cup in the shackle. I took a saw-z-all and carefully cut it as best I could and used a cold chisel to get it out.

If this is still in there they aren’t gonna fit. It takes a little bit to get them in but nothing crazy. You can squish them in by hand.CF211FAB-7D11-45A8-AB67-8CE46E07CB44.jpg

Yeah it still has the bushing sleeve. You can take it out with some elbow grease

Buy new shackels, not that expensive and saves a lot of work.

Dobinson greaseable bolts work for me.

1606B8BB-9A07-4D73-BA66-394ABC824E3F.jpg Any one looking for a poly set and new shackles with the bushings in. I have a set that’s new in box and never been used. I sold my Tacoma before installing these for the dakars.
100 bucks shipped or make an offer.

I paid 80 plus shipping for the bushings and 40 plus shipping for the shackles.
