I noticed this also and agree. Speed seems to effect the mileage more in this truck then other vehicles I've owned

I get average of 19.5 mpgs. Combined. Try to stay at one constant speed and try not to break when not needed by leaving plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. Look up hypermiling.

Mine did seem to get better over time.

This 3.5 was originally a car engine (yes it has been modified for truck use). It will get good MPG at low RPM on flat roads but to get real power you have to rev it to over 3,000 RPM. At that point, good MPG goes bye-bye.

I'm not sure how many miles you have on your truck but as the computer learns how you/it drives the MPGs get better. My have went up steadily in the first couple of thousand miles and now is pretty constant 18mpg in mountain driving.

Stay under 65 for 5mpg better. If you can stay under 60, you'll get about 7. I've driven my auto AC OR in standard mode for 40 miles at 60mph and ended the trip at 23mpg for the trip average.

Anything over 65 in this truck just sucks down gas.

My truck is 100% stock. My driving style and conditions are ideal. I don't haul a load and I'm almost always alone in truck. Yet I only get 13.5 and 15.5 mpg.

    It's one of three things.

    1. It's your driving and you don't realize it
    2. You live in the mountains
    3. It's your driving and you don't realize it.

Nope to all. See my original post from yesterday. Dealer Advisor stated they are seeing this a lot. Dealer also test drove the vehicle according to Toyota test protocol and could not achieve better than 17.5 mpg. If dealer could not achieve the bare minimum 18mpg on the ideal test protocol, I HIGHLY DOUBT this has anything to do with driving style...

My truck runs a consistent 20-21mpg. Per tank, not the crappy trip computer.

I ever posted this pic before (for the phone mount) and someone commented on the mpg.

    Cruising at 60-65 mph.
Less than 500 miles on the truck.
Cargo bed was loaded with 3 old heavy old big screen TV's.

Most likely a heavy foot. Or the truck still hasn't broken in. I was on the same boat getting like 11 mpgs and 700 miles in it keeps improving slowly now I can get 20+mpg on the highway. But in the city it really depends on traffic.

You are driving a 16 TRD OFF-ROAD AC. I'm driving a 17 TRD OFF-ROAD DCLB. Although the mechanical is the same and software should be the same, they are separated by weight (your truck should be lighter if it's stock) and production year. So I can appreciate that you are getting good mileage but I simply am not and Toyota's test could not either.

I hope you are right and it improves over time. But as I said earlier: See my original post from yesterday. Dealer Advisor stated they are seeing this a lot. Play with your 4x4... engage/disengage... I have seen my mileage go from 13 in the city to 18 in the city and 17 on the highway to 25.. I think there is an issue with the transfer case sending power to the front wheels.

people talk ish to me on here but I have gotten a 28.9 mile best average on a 25 mile trip after I played with the 4wd/2wd system. Its a pain but its worth a try for you.

I notice that my mileage sucks I always try to engage and disengage and ill hear a clunk when its fully out. like it was bound up or you had the wheels turned. steering is easier and acceleration is different..

Try it on dirt, engage 4wd and drive, put in N and disengage and drive backwards. seems to be the best trick for me.

    either way good luck.

Thanks. I will try that. That's interesting. The other issue the dealership will look into (they say it was an issue w/some 16's but not seen on any 17's) is that on random occasion, I get a super hard shift into and out of reverse.

It should get better I can only speak for myself and mine has increased allot. Also my truck has been driving allot better in terms of shifting. I was real skeptical about people saying that the truck learns your driving style but it is driving muuuch better now and I never have to use the ect button anymore.

Mine has 270 miles on it, so brand new. Tank average is 13.1. Typical trip around town is about... 13.1. That's hilly, suburban driving with lots of stop signs and stop lights. The one time I drove for 30 minutes on a freeway, it was 19.

    I was definitely expecting better.

Note, that's stock. The mods in my description are currently in progress.
