Was thinking about this the other day to pump them up and see if I saw a difference, what does the door panel say regarding recommended pressures? (sorry I just got the truck and it hasn't crossed my mind to see what is recommended yet)

The inside of the door says 30 psi, which is too soft imo. Some people run way up over 40, I decided to kind of split the difference. I did see immediate improvement in mpg, went from ~ 18mpg to ~22mpg on my daily commute.

At the cost of uneven wear on the tires though. You'll wear out the middle.

I'm at the recommended tire pressure and have been considering going up to 35-38 psi or so but I also want to get 50k miles out of these tires. The struggle is real.

For a smaller engine than the previous generation and the loss of low end torque, the 3rd gen only produces marginally better mpg's than the 2nd gen according to fuelly.Screenshot_20170322-104338.jpg

Yeah I get that it will wear the tires down a bit faster, but for me the improved handling characteristics alone are worth the trade-off. MPG increase is icing on the cake. :headbang:

    For 2016 vs 2015, it's 1.2 MPG or 6.8% higher.
Not a huge gain at all and definitely NOT worth the loss of the good low end torque of the previous 4.0 motor which is a monumental mistake by Toyota. What were they thinking when they decided to use the Camry/Sienna motor on a truck?

Yes, I've been running all 4 tires at about 36 psi cold for the past couple of years, happy with the mpgs; haven't noticed any appreciable extra wear on tire centers...yet; but they're the stock Dunflops, so I'm not too worried.

I got 23-25 mpg all summer last year no problem on a new truck. 8 months later and I'm getting 16-17 on avg. haven't changed my habits but did go from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17.

I recently did a long road trip. Basically filling up then driving on the highway until I needed gas again. 3 weeks plus

DC Sport with stock size BFG KO2s (265-70-16) no lift and goofy chin guard removed. The worst I recorded was 18.7 mpg and the best was 19.6 (these might be off a little.. going by memory.. but they are close)

This was all highway and usually going around 75-85 mph (driving fast and hard... didn't baby it ever)

edit to include psi (all set to 32psi cold... when I checked the TPMS read out while driving they were usually around 35-36 when warmed up)

That's great news and I was expecting worse when I switch to the KO2s. Do you actually calculate your mileage, or are you just going off of the computer?

Buying a Tacoma and expecting good gas mileage makes about as much sense as wipin' before you poop.

    LOL...

I agree, but I thinks its fair to expect what the EPA says we should get. Or atleast close.

You're getting less than what the sticker says?

I believe so, based on the overall readout on the Entune, I am at 17 point something. Best tank average I think was 19ish. That was highway. But Fuelly says I had a 20. Edit: that was on an under 5 gallon fill up.

Stuff some bigger tires under there. I'm right about 11-12 :burnrubber:

You and I both have manuals and our Fuelly numbers look identical. I've tracked every drop of gas since new. Got almost 20 on one tank but our averages are spot on.

Ya that would drive me nuts, but I do want to upsize at some point.

    window sticker.jpg

So yes I am within what they say, so I guess I can't bitch..much. But I would love to see some better mpgs when on the highway.

To get 21mpg, I'm almost certain you'd have to stay at 45-50 on a dead flat road. Honestly a taller 6th gear would make all the difference on the Manual. It's almost like they geared the manuals for larger tires.
