just received my pop & lock that I decided I needed before leaving on a trip. Didn't know that they offered a color match option. So I sprung for the $30+ option to add a little more color match to my BRM truck! Added bonus!!! Or so I thought...
Just popped it out of the box and it looks like a ricer rattle-canned it in the parking lot of autozone.
Anyone else have this sub par feeling?

I would love to back and forth it with pop & lock but I only have a few days before my trip and really need this installed. In addition, it's a keyable "learning" lock cylinder so I'm afraid if I key it I'm out of luck.
The other thing I've seen from discussions on TW is that they don't stand behind their product when it's purchased on Amazon.
But why would I pay $11.00 shipping from their site when I have a prime account and can get it in 2 days???!?
Anyways, mostly looking for feedback on others that purchased this colored match option and if it's equally as orangepeeled as the one I received.
    Onto the photos!!!

I too just purchased mine from Amazon. I bought the color matched one for only $19. I thought it was a glitch in the system but I went ahead and tried to see if it would go through. Sure enough, it arrived at my front door for only $19 all together. When I opened it up I noticed the exact same orange peel on mine. I figured that was why it was only $19. Guess I was wrong.

I paid $110 for mine, im thinking a call is in order to explain my disappointment. This is sooo sub-par that I would have just bought the black one rather than people thinking that I painted it myself.

Furthermore, I'm really worried about the longevity of the paint. If it starts peeling & flaking in a year I'm going to be ticked!

I even tried to overlook the issues I'd seen on here that people have with them breaking, just to have some piece of mind while staying in sketchy hotels with my topper on.

Just call pop and lock and they'll send you a new one ( probably black would be the preferred color). You can ask them to express ship it and get it in 2 days.

Yeah, I just hope they don't pull the "you bought it on Amazon, deal with them, or tough luck" move. That's what I've seen about the breakage issues.
I'll call tomorrow on my break and see what becomes of this.

I got mine from Amazon, called them for a warranty exchange and they didn't even check where I purchased it or when I purchased it. They just sent me another one, no questions asked.

Well that's a good glimmer of hope. Maybe I can at least get a black one, and if I want to paint it later, I will. Really, I wasn't even going to get a color matched one (since I didn't know it existed), but went for it anyway.

Was yours color matched? I guess the reason I didn't wanna call was cause their warranty paperwork states that if it's not purchased directly through them, it's null and void.

Nah, that's just to keep people away. They didn't ask me where I bought it or when or proof I even bought it. I just told them the model number and dude asked me for my address. Easy peezy.

Of course I called in due to the locking mechanism being broke. In your situation doesn't sound like anything is broke, you just like the color.

Not that I don't like the color, it matches perfectly, even in the mid day sun. It's just the rippled, orange peel texture. I honestly was expecting something on par with the color matched door handles on my truck.
I don't think it's too out of line to expect that from a large company, but apparently it's not just a bad one that I received if others confirmed this texture on theirs. So I'll have to decide if it's something I want to live with or just go back to an unfinished black style... if they'll honor anything in a short turnaround.

I bought mine in color matched silver. It is a flat color rather than gloss. Decent orange peel. Such a thin coat of paint that the black is showing through....

I would not be happy either, not for 110.00 bucks.

    19.00 dollars maybe.

It does it's job for $19. I know I would have been livid if I paid the $110 for it. I was shocked as well to see how flimsy the plastic was on the handle.

OP- I didn't instal the pop & Lock mechanism because of how much negative I read on TW about it. For me, having to manually lock and unlock the bed is not an inconvenience for me. Keep us updated, I'm curious what the company says.

Kind of the s response I was expecting from pop & lock. The rep said they sub out their paint work and they all look that bad. I asked if I could swap it with an unpainted black one before I depart on my trip, he told me to talk to Amazon and see if they could do anything.
He advised me to not install it for my trip and return it to Amazon.
So I'm between a rock and s hard place.
I might just deal with it as is and drop it.

Let this be a warning for anyone looking at the color matched option. (Unless you can pick one up for $19!)

Take a pic of it up against your tailgate, guaranteed no one would really notice the difference to be honest.

The quality of the paint on it is just horrible though. I think if he installed the part it would be "good from far, but far from good". I wouldn't install that on my truck.

I may be a bit of a perfectionist, although I'm realistic when it comes to certain things. Most things I can really let go, but when it's downright bad, I'm going to call someone out.
There are areas along the exposed plastic part of the latch that don't even have paint on them.
And in all honesty, I doubt they even do any prep. So what happens when it begins to flake? Then will people notice it?
    I know I will.
