I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
Japanese Domestic Market, lol. I've only heard that in the fishing industry. That tells you what a non-auto guy I was until I fell in love with this truck.

I just got off the phone with Pop & Lock and they are upgrading the spring in the lock to a heavier one.
Call them at 1-800-342-5911 and ask for technical support they'll take you info and mail out the new spring, he said it should be 2 weeks or so.

Funny, I bought the 5300 also because of the good reviews but I don't have any problems described here. Actually my son is the one who uses it every day to load his backpack in the bed. The ony one time when I couldn't unlatched it but I think it was because my son didn't push hard enough and the right side wasn't latched in. I just had to push the right side of the gate all the way in.

But I have to say that it's not as smooth as the OEM latch. Also what' up with these locks on the trucks (on my old Titan, also). They both turn clockwise/unlock and couterclockwise/lock. Were they designed this way for a purpose? Most locks work the other way around.

So you actually have to turn the key back to lock it after you close the tailgate with the 5300? The 5200 is just turn the key to unlock it, open tailgate, turn key back and take key out. When you're done you just close tailgate and it's locked. Is it different from that?

That's how my 5300 work. I didn't know the 5200 has the auto lock feature. Nice, wish mine came that way.

Isn't that the same thing? Whether you turn the key back before or after you close the tailgate doesn't really matter.

I keep my tailgate locked unless I have something back there of value. However, it usually locks itself anyway. This is annoying because I'll come out of the house without my key (expecting it to be unlocked) and have to run back in to unlock it. Or I'll get out of the truck with the engine still running, try to drop the gate only to find its locked and I need the keys.

Just annoying. I'll call them for the upgraded spring.

I have the pop and lock non powered. I agree the handle part is very flimsy feeling. Stainless steel would be nice. I'll have to look into it.

I turn the key to unlock it, start to open it, then lock it back up and remove the key before the tailgate is down.

You meant you keep your gate UNlocked? The locked gate is not just to keep things in the bed from being stolen, but also the gate itself and in your case (base on your picture), the cover too.

installed my pop and lock a few weeks back. at a park in the ghetto, rofl. i was using tools that came with a pc toolkit; had everything I needed. so, there is no excuse for anyone to not be able to do the install themselves.

p.s. installing the camera was the most pain of the install. make sure you use the bracket mount they provide. and don't drop the tiny screw in the grass.. I spent like 10 mins looking for it and eventually found it.

I have the PL5300. No complaints! Everything works.

I've got the springs about 2 weeks ago. Haven't installed them yet as mine works ok. I wonder if some of the late products (bought mine last Nov)already have them.
