Has anyone used this item bought on EBay. Its supposed to lock your tailgate. I just recieved mine. Looks to be a high quality piece of metal. I'm a little worried it might scratch my paint. Maybe i should put some protective tape uder it before install. If anyone has exprierience with this id like some feedback thanx.

I found the Pop N Lock very easy to install - less than 20 minutes. As I'm sure you've found out, it's widely available from many suppliers on the net.
PS - I did find I did not need to use the extension bars that come with the lock with my 07 PreRunner.

I didn't use the extentions either. I've heard there's more play in the system if you do.Works great. Go ahead and dance all night. I know I'll have a tailgate when the dance is over.

if i were actually worried about someone stealing my tailgate, i'd have bigger problems. i had a pop n lock on my s-10 b/c i didnt wanna drill holes and insert locks in my low profile tonneau, but still wanted the security for my tool, etc

They've got an electronic one that ties into your remote lock/unlock system if you don't want to be bothered carrying an extra key....I've got that on mine with a hard tonnau cover (Extang SolidFold)...bed is nice and secure...

Recall on which? pop n loc or the bakflip cover? Had my pop n loc for at least a year and a half without any issues. It unlocks when you put the key in and turn it and it locks when you take they key out and close the tailgate.

I have the PL5300 on my '09 and it works great. The Extang Solid Fold, not so much. All of the seals were poorly cut and it leaks. The paint also chips very easily. I hope you are having better luck.

I didn't say bed was dry :rain: ...for what I wanted - a rigid cover that would support my 245lbs ( yes, I've stood on it )...it's cool...but yeah, seals could work a little bettah...

The PL5300 WAS on backorder for redesign... We have been getting the redesigned units in for about a month now... So, if someone is telling anyone they are still on backorder thats untrue...

We have plenty of them in stock....

I just wanted to give Pop & Lock a kudo. I emailed them Friday to ask if any upgrades were made to the original PL5300 which I have. I received a UPS Express package with a new handle and spring yesterday. Pretty good customer service if you ask me.

The 5300 is still a very weak piece of plastic. The new handle and spring are minor fixes and do not solve the weak plastic actuator from the lock to the handle. The 5300 when locked moves a thin plastic rod to allow the two rods to the truck bed to be bypassed or not pull in to open the tailgate. As that bypass mechcanism seems to stick some times its hard to tell if you have it locked or unlocked (handle puts up for both).

Yes they ship parts quickly and are helpful, lock usually works, but you will not be impressed at all and I hope they upgrade their design completely and use some metal in it - doubt mine will last too long (was sticking after 3 months - did their handle/spring fix and it seemed like a waste of my time. The actual lock cylinder is pretty cheap and when you remove the back to put that spring on, you see the inside piece that rotates is also plastic.

If you compare the P & L handle to the original OEM one they are both plastic and look almost identical.
