I am looking at getting the Porter Cable 7424XP 6- Inch Variable Speed polish and was curious what other thought about it. Can you just use any pads or do you buy specific ones?

I havent used mine alot - but I use UBER pads from Detailers Domain. I have been very pleased with them. The main reason I chose them is that reviewer indicated the hook/loop backing doesnt come off like some pads. The only down side is you have to get them from a specialty provider.

That is a very good machine. If you buy a 5in backing plate then you can use just about any hook and loop pad 5-6in. I recommend checking out detailedimage for any detailing supplies.

I would stick with Lake Country Mfg Pads. Although they offer a wide range of pads, I would stick w/ the 5.5" pads on a 5" flexible backing plate. I still prefer the ccs ones, however, flat or hydrotech will work equally as well.
