Definitely got my work cut out for me, she’s got some rust. But at least once done, it’ll be good

Got into the passenger side of the frame. Most of the frame rail along the spring mount is gone. I started with a piece of 1/4” on the outside, I’ll get to the same on the inside, then cap the bottom with the same, so that once it’s done, it’ll be good and solid. I also built a “rake” to get into the frame and remove the debris. I’m thinking that what this frame needs is 2 or 3 3/4” holes along the bottom, then hit it with a carven hose for a couple hours, and just let it run. Find some rubber caps that will fit the hole, then a couple times a year, pull them and clean it good.

Dropped the gas tank, so I can get at all of this frame. I’m going to wind up boxing the whole thing, so may as well have as much access as possible. The rust. Damn.

And since I ran out of steel, I grooved one of my spares for snow wheeling. I need to get a siping tool as well, this groover is the best I’ve seen, but doesn’t sipe tires.

Sand blasted the front box area crossmember. Steel is still pretty good, I’m going to clean this, cut it to fit once the frame is all boxed, and then take it and powder coat it. Leave edges clean, so I can weld it in. At least the majority of it will be coated, and the edges I weld in can be painted then rust coated.

    Welcome to the fold,
Say do you have a source for the bezels(?) that you used to install in the cutouts on the ARB, for the fog lights and turn signals? That’s a sweet mod on the bumper. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to mount some fog lights in the bumper.

Digging the photos, thanks for sharing, hope to get up that way and check out some of that country instead of drive through it like I have over the years.

Good luck with the frame work. Cheers

Thank you! For sure let me know if you do get this way. I'd be happy to tale you for a run. The bezels and signal/marker lights I used are ARB, from an ARB FJ Cruiser bumper.

    Part numbers;
3163015 is the ARB # for the surrounds
6821287 is the ARB # for the signal/marker lights.
6821201 is the ARB # for their fogs. I used a set of revolvers from Inspired Engineering. Had to build my own support for those tho.

Should have steel Friday. So, I carved up another tire. I’m honestly afraid to sneeze near this thing now, with how little steel there is left on the drivers side!!

@POSTacoMike , I'm curious in Post #30, 2nd photo, are those stock skid plates I see. Glad that you saved a 1st gen from the car crusher. I don't think I'd call it a POS anymore if it's getting you into places that your posting pics from.

Those are stock skid plates. I was recently given a set of second gen aluminum plates, that were bent and stretched. I straightened them at work, and I’ll be adding a layer to them, as well as redesigning them to fit a little closer than they were designed. The pos reference is definitely tongue in cheek!

So, I decided to part ways with my not yet scheduled 98 that needed the frame. I kept the frame, and sold the truck for a good price, to a fella looking to do a 3.4 swap into his 90 pick up. Now to move the frame back to the garage, and box it. It’s in excellent shape, and I may as well use it, rather than pitch, patch, and patch some more on the dc frame.

It's a Bedford front drive assist, with a 20T knuckle picker on it. Earl built it up for goofing around, for off road recovery, and for general shenanigans.

That things awesome!! I need something like that in my vehicle arsenal. My wife has no idea the kind of vehicular madness she is avoiding by us living in a suburban neighborhood with no land to store anything LOL!!

Hahahaahhahhaah!! Love it!!! Same for my wife!! I have a couple vehicles stored in several secret locations, with plans to get to them., I've become one of "those":facepalm:That's why I sold the 98, so I'd actually concentrate on projects I want to see done!

The more I do, the more I need to do. Pulled the timing belt cover, as I needed to get at a nut on the intake. The belt was changed 54k KM ago. From the looks of it, they used a used one! May as well do the water pump too, and I’ll be doing the valve cover gaskets as well.

Figured since I’m pulling the motor, to make the frame swap a little easier, may as well break it down so the harness can stay with the cab, and I can do some clean up. When this goes back in, I’ll be dropping the supercharger into it.
