Posession and providing laws?

Hey guys, im looking into purchasing my first handgun but am very confused on the laws for "providing" a handgun. It says that you have to be over 18 to posess or Provide a handgun... does that mean i can privately purchase a handgun if im 20 years old? That part is just as confusing as open carrying the handgun once i get it. im 20 and you have to be 21 to "conceal" but open carry is over 18... But what are the laws on it being loaded? Ive tried doing research on RMGO and honestly im still pretty lost. Any LEOS advice would be great! im looking into getting a handgun for protection and self defense.

under federal law you cannot buy a new pistol from a gun dealer until youre 21...but you can buy one in a private sale at 18(assuming state law doesnt prohibit it)
