Hi all! I will possibly be moving to Colorado in about 6 months or so and i would be coming from Hawaii. I have a prerunner that I was going to have shipped over but someone told me that they didn't think my 2wd will be good in CO, is this true? I mean not everyone has a 4wd! Also, what are the slower parts of Colorado? We'd be staying in Denver for a little bit but coming from an island I would not be able to handle the fast pace and would need to live in a much slower and smaller area! Lol .. Thanks. :)

Prerunner is fine, until you start exploring deeper into the mountains..

Where will you be working? That would help narrow down as to which direction you will want to go as far as a slower smaller area.

Hi and thank you for the response. Well I won't have a job yet. I'd be looking when I got there, I'd especially be looking for a job in an area where we'd be living in or somewhere not to far of a drive from where I'd live. This is one of those going in blind things which is totally not me! Needless to say I'm scared shitless about it! Thats why we are trying to pin point an area and look for employment there and near by. Needless to say I've been to Colorado once only in the Denver area for 3 days only! Lol

Depending on your area of expertise, I would say the Denver Metro area will be your best bet for work, depending on what it is you do. Once you figure that out, you could narrow your search for living in a smaller town.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Best of luck to you out there. I know it would be hard for me to up and leave to a new area on a whim.

My suggestion; find someplace that has a lot of TW members nearby who hold a lot of mod parties.

Just a though but 2wd aren't as popular here and there value reflects that. Now I had a prerunner in the snow my first year here and a few sand bags and/or good tires with a snow rating would defiantly help. As for area haven't been to impressed with Aurora. To much transient people and crappy drivers.

After living in CO for over 20 years, I personally wouldnt drive a 2wd tacoma here. Nobody wants them for a reason. If you think you can sell it in HI, I would do it.

I can't say I know anybody who drives a 2wd truck here. Denver is the complete opposite of slow and small. Especially in the past few years. Big, fast, and dirty.

@SilverGhost had a 2wd... which he converted to 4wd... then converted it to an airplane... LOL

I wouldn't want a 2wd, because it's just a pita when the weather turns shitty... but then again, I personally never saw the point in having a truck that wasn't 4wd. just personal opinion, not bashing. it obviously works for some, just not my preference.

also, while 4wd can help in bad weather, it's not a "negate all weather" button/lever. meaning you can't put it in 4wd and do 70... well you can, but you're an idiot. besides GOING isn't usually the problem... it's STOPING... lol

    Preemptive welcome

I've been living here 20+ years and would feel sketched out driving a rear wheel drive pick up. Regardless if you venture into the mountains in winter or not.

And if you're looking for a "slow" area I'm sure you'll be in the foothills or mountains somewhere.

    Just my opinion.

Sell the PreRunner there where it's worth more. Between that & not paying to ship you'll save thousands. Buy a truck when you get here. Best financial advise I can give you.

I agree with everyone saying to sell it there where it's valued more. Most everyone I know in Colorado who moved with a 2WD sold it for 4WD and lost money. I personally wouldn't want a truck without 4WD here. As far as mellow areas I don't think the Springs is all that bad. It's a large enough city to accommodate everything you need and then some, but small enough to where traffic doesn't get out of control and you don't feel crowded every where ect. Best of luck with the decisions!

Agreed with everyone. If you have the opportunity to sell your PreRunner and get a 4WD, that's the best option.

However, I would say that getting around the Denver area with a PreRunner is very much doable. There's quite a few Camaros, Mustangs, etc. that make it around just fine.
I'd recommend sand bags in the bed to weigh it down during snow.

You'll really only run into real issues if you venture off road or get towards the High Rockies and Western Slope areas.

Springs gets a bad rep but I love it here. Mellow vibes throughout, better views, and close mountains. Hard to ask for much more
