Update as I have just received a call from the dealership.
They have replaced the valve cover gasket and the valve cover on the left bank. The oil leak is still there, they have contacted Toyota Corporate and have ordered a new cam shaft holder as they suspect that is the faulty part being it is made from a porous aluminum. I was surprised to hear that the valve cover and gasket are plastic. Can anyone give me some insight on this?

Toyota and others have been using plastic parts on engines for quite some time. The intake manifold on the 4cyl is plastic.

    was this leak ever resolved??

i noticed the smell of burnt oil on my brand new truck last week, i brought it in and they said that it looks like the head gasket is leaking... now that they have replaced the head gasket they are are telling me that it looks like the cam shaft housing is leaking!

    I'm guessing low transmission fluid

Notice any excessive gear change or clunking? That's another sign of low fluid.

Why isn’t Toyota simply putting a new engine in it? If I were Toyota, I would want to know why a new trucks engine is leaking?

Go back and ask them what is NOT leaking.

My leak was, yes. It was the timing chain cover.

Called it. The only oil leaks I've seen on the 3.5 has been the cover and it was for only a certain time during production. The robot applying the sealant didn't add enough on one spot on the timing cover.

I don't recall but that was the explanation Toyota was giving.

That would be about right. I've personally only saw one and another tech came across one.

Mine is a 2017 and I can see a visible leak, i think it collected around the PS Pump, noticed it the last time I changed the oil.

Yup that's the cover. They leak at the timing cover on the right side by the PS pump. Hope you still have warranty because the easiest way to repair is to remove the motor.

Curious where I should keep an eye on

I purchased the 8 year 125k extended but I am only at 17k now so still currently under the factory coverage. Not crazy about the repair procedure for that as it sounds like a pretty big job.
