Out of context question, but for those of you that have had had rental cars in the past this is for you. I picked up my rental today as I just dropped off my truck at the dealer. The rental trucks been sitting in my hot driveway all morning and I just went to go to the store and it seems the heat brought out a marijuana smell in the truck. Do you think I should report this now or just wait on it until I return the truck? The dealer is scheduled to have my truck until about next Wednesday.

Report it to the rental company ASAP.

Most car rental agreements now prohibit smoking of any kind in a rental vehicle. Marijuana, cigarettes, it doesn't matter. If you return it without reporting it, you could possibly be charged for the additional cleaning fee.

I called them and they said they’re “customer service based” and to not worry about it as it’s s common occurrence. Asked him to document it and he gave me his name and assured me that I would not get billed for it. We’ll see how it plays out when I return the truck next week.

Got my truck back today, super happy to be back in my own truck.
Just in case anyone is curious, I now see why they pulled the engine out. They replaced about every gasket I can think of on the engine, even the cylinder head gasket. Hopefully with these brand new seals the life of my engine got extended by another 40k miles:D

Hey Rusty, I'm at 44K and noticed a leak and thought it was oil but turns out it's coming from the pump. Did you find out if it was just a hose or the pump you need to fix?

It was time for an oil change after I got my leak fixed, and once I began pouring the used oil into the containers that had the new oil, I didn’t even fill up 6 quarts of oil. I came to about 5.5 quarts. It’s my understanding these engines use 6.2 quarts of oil. I don’t really drive my truck hard enough to believe I’m shy of burning a whole quart of oil every 8k-10k miles. Anybody else notice then when changing the engine oil?

Yeah you will never be able to get out all the old oil from every crevice inside your engine. Don't worry about it. But like the other guy said. You have a dipstick to make sure.

Honestly never look at the dipstick before I drain it, after I filled up with approx 6.2 was and it’s right on spot to where it’s supposed to be. Just wanted to make sure my truck wasn’t burning more oil than it’s supposed to.

Every 1000 miles or so pop the hood , check the oil , look around and check for critters nest .
