So I decided to replace the cabin air filter today and I noticed lots of plastic pieces in my filter, looked closer and it's shredded up like crazy, along with broken bits of plastic from the the grate Up top.
I looked for any signs of mice or whatever but turned up with nothing, not even poop! So I need some input on how to get back there or if this even is a rodent issue. I will take it back to Toyota and have them look at it but from what I heard warranty won't cover it.

    Thanks

I'm glad to hear this. When did they quit using it?

I personally know some folks who has all sorts of issues with mice and squirrels eating the engine harness. Toyo wouldnt replace it under warranty, so they had to make a claim on their insurance, a $5k bill.

When I lived in New Mexico this was a big problem.

Fill a sandwich bag with moth balls. Poke a few holes in bag.
Zip tie bag to firewall. Refill as needed.

If you are trying to get rid of the ones that are in there.... PNB on a snap trap. You will have them within an hour or 2.

Honda sells wrap for wiring but it’s super expensive. Home remedies that I’ve heard work are tucking away bars of soap or tying dryer sheets at different areas in the engine bay.

The class action says that 2016 was the last year Toyota used it. However getting any more information than that is like getting blood from a stone.

Was it a mid-year change? Was it on any 3rd gen Tacomas at all? What time during production was it changed over? These are all pretty :censored: important facts to establish a class for a class action lawsuit but nope, no one seems to be figuring this out, or at the very least they aren't telling anyone.

This means that if your 2017 was made in late 2016, you might still have the soy wiring. 2017's started getting built in August 2016.

If you have a 2016 model year you might have it too. The answer is all shrugs and mysteries. :annoyed: I have a "mid" 2016 made in March.

Hey thanks for all the tips and replies! So with better lighting today i checked all the wires and places they could of enter, there isn't the slightest evidence of mice... now im paranoid. Hopefully when i take it to Toyota come Monday, they will do a more thorough search.

It's still used on some vehicles, I don't know exact date and it didn't happen all at once for Tacoma. 2015 is last one I think.
It really does not matter if the wire coating is soy based or not though. Many years ago, long before that type of wire, critters were chewing regular wire up too.

New guy here. I haven't had critters chew any wires or get in the cabin air filter compartment but have had them make a nest in the air filter compartment. Twice! So I am looking for any mods done to keep them OUT!
They have chewed 2 air filters and pulled all the insulation from under the flip up intake cover!

Also mothballs in the engine bay and some mace on some strategically placed areas inside the engine bay, under carriage and firewall. Just don’t spray it on anything that gets hot, you don’t want to pull air in when you turn off the recirculate vent with mace in the air...
