Looking to run Pott's Wednesday, April 25th, camping halfway (I was told this is the best way to enjoy Pott's) and coming down Thursday the 26th. I'll probably want to be out relatively early to camp up at FPK the next night.

I plan on running it the hard way (which is up I'm told) since it's far from home and I want to really test myself and my rig.

This trail is not for the faint of heart I’m told as well. Seems like full armor is a minimum requirement.

    So who's down?

Heard interest from @VA SOFTACO @Klierslc @4x4runner2002 so here are the defined date's. I'll be camping near the trailhead Tuesday night, going to head down after work, will probably setup in the dark.

    Pic for attention:

I had that week off but found out yesterday that I'll have to travel for work that week. I'd love to do this trip as this is the second time I've lived in VA and still haven't done Potts mtn.

Yeah leaving Tuesday early afternoonish but can be Tuesday night. There supposedly is a lot of camping options right near the trailhead. Ideally it would be a drive straight to the trailhead.

@TacoFMS you said the hard way is going up, correct? Is that starting at Potts Mtn Rd? Or SR 617?

Looks like the Pines Campground is the best bet for free camping nearby like @FrustrationFabTaco mentioned:
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/gwj/recarea/?recid=73987

Less than a month away. Stoked because I am itching to get some wheeling and camping done asap.

Camp pines, go to the second trail head to start the climb. You’ll know you start correctly when you see a Potts mountain trail geography/about sign, cross a creek, and head up the trail around a bunch a mountain laurel. First difficult section is a ledge you drop down and go into a rocky section that you climb back up. Can’t remember trail head numbers but if you travel miles of gravel you are headed to the top,go to the other trail head

Awesome alright so it looks like the lower trailhead is the one we would be looking for. Thanks man!

Shit I was looking at the Covington area vs New Castle. Honestly if Tuesday night/Wednesday morning is the only rain we encounter, I'll be pretty happy. It will however make what I am hearing as the hardest part of the trail even harder being that it will be a wet and sloppy mess lol I am going to try to bring my EZ up for this trip as well so we have a safe place to hide from the rain. Hopefully it all changes, and it's nothing but sunshine.
