Where did the post about softopper fitment go? There was a link to the build thread and more pictures and I can't seem to find it anymore.

Looks like it would be just about perfect if you could extend the lip another 3/4"

I use USPS. They're cheap and super fast.

Now I'm using double walled boxes, so there is no chance of anything getting dinged up in shipment.

I was hoping on his next batch he would be willing to make one slightly longer for me. I would be more than willing to pay for it up front.

Your softopper fits differently than mine for whatever reason, and my rails go about 1" further back toward the tailgate. The front flap is perfectly flat on the front of the bed and I cannot move it forward anymore and still be able to fold it down. The other difference I noticed is that mine does not stick up above the cab like most of the others I have seen pictures of. I am very happy with the fitment, but my flap will definitely not work doing what you are on top of the tailgate. 1/4-3/4" would get about 1/2 engagement on the velcro which would be more than enough.

I'm not asking him to change ALL of the parts he makes, but maybe others with a softopper would like to do the same thing as me.

It's definitely not out of the question. If more people express an interest in an "extended version", I'll do it.

Just to clarify, you want the part that goes down over the back of the tailgate to be longer?

Yep, I want to measure it again just to be sure. I think I mentioned it before, but the top edge of the velcro sits right at the bottom of the existing cap edge. I'll have to take a picture. I realize that the adhesive may not stick so well to the PC, but drilling and riveting like doording did isn't out of the question. I can always re-coat or paint the holes after I drill to prevent rusting.

Interesting. I wonder how much weight this cap could take? Would there ever be a situation where strapping to the cap would pry it up? I'm not sure how rigid that foam is so maybe this is a dumb question. But great functionality if it is sure not to move the cap.
This! I will wait patiently :spy:

The foam is very rigid. The cap doesn't move at all no matter how much pressure you put on it.

But.......the cap is held in place by fasteners that screw into plastic clips, so, you know....

I understand, it does seem like it can be used as a sturdy tie down.

As for when I said I would be waiting, I did not mean to quote that post. I meant to quote this one:

I get your reasons for not wanting to do a full tailgate reinforcement, and I meant to quote this instead. A full top replacement system would be very nice, as mine are quite flimsy, and might even be the cause of some rattles.

Looking at your response, this one seems much more doable. But I was just putting my .02 in, I wasn't demanding anything.

    This is true.

Better to just use the cleats and/or tie downs.

Side rails might be a cool little project, I just have to find time to develop it.

Steelhead season is starting in my neck of the woods, so time is tight :) :) :)

They've got woods in NY? I wouldn't have thought! The season starts the same time in NY as it does in Texas  Good luck!
