I would flush it anyways if the fluid was still that crappy color or your just going to have problems again sooner than later.....

I'm in the same boat. Here is what i have learned when you buy a pump it doesn't come with a resevoir so you use the one that was on the old pump, the resevoir has a very small screen in the bottom the becomes clogged and starves the pump of fluid. Until this is corected it will continue to trash new pumps. Removed the screen and put a inline filter on the return hose mainly because a new resevoir from toyota is about $185. Hope this helps

Have had the pump replaced twice. Whining in pump in the morning while truck is at idle. If i drive it or leave it set for 5 minutes then shuit off restart noise goes away. Im taking your suggestion about the screen and in line filter to my garage this week. Will let you know how it turns out

Mine has whined for a long time; started about 2 years after I bought it new.

I'm going to check that screen in the reservoir now.

This forum is a great resource for info & help.

After replacing ps pump I still had whining and after repeated attempts at flushing and bleeding to no avail I pulled reservoir off and removed top to find the fine mesch screen almost completely plugged after 265k mi. of use. cleaned and blow dried, reassembled- worked like a new one- quiet.

Does this sound like a high pitch whine, or a moan? I think my ps is doing this when its cold, but all goes away after the truck is warmed up. Its really hard to pinpoint this sound.
