So come to find out after we got some rain here in so cal I started having the imfamous “Pre-Collision sensor unavailable” message. I cleaned the sensor and the windshield and to no avail it didn’t rectify the issue. So I took it to the stealership to have it checked. They took the truck and apparently just reset or recalibrated the collision system. By the time I got home from picking up the truck the message was back. So I took it back the next day and now it was escalated to Toyota specialists from Toyota corporation to help the mechanics narrow down the issue which I suspected to be a faulty sensor, sure enough that’s what the problem is. The point to my post...anyone else have this issue? Ive definitely read some threads her TW regarding it. Just wanna hear some other thoughts from you Gents.

    Stock grill?
Only time I’ve seen that error is when mine was actually dirty.

What a pain. I suspected that I was going to have an issue when this message came up. What I find annoying is that the dealer doesn’t have an in house fix for this issue.

Mine does it every once in a while, but it seems to do it when we have rain or winter weather.

So check this out...I asked the mechanic who was working on my truck if changing my grill to a pro grill would affect the sensor and according to him it would have to be recalibrated because when they calibrate with the software they have to measure and input numbers. I’m not to sure how dead on that would be.

The explanation the service advisors gave me was that the sensor isnt sealed and moisture messes it up

Interesting. Seems pretty lame that it wouldn’t be sealed being in the front portion of the vehicle.

Yah they said an engineer from corporate is coming in tomorrow to look at the truck. It had to stay there overnight. Hopefully it gets resolved. I love the truck but that one issue is really annoying

Totally man. They had me pick up mine today while they order a new sensor. Fingers crossed this won’t be an on going issue. My 2nd gen didn’t have these issues.

That’s good to know. Seems to me that it’s not that exact of a system. So dropping the sensor an inch or so doesn’t seem that it would be an issue.

I can assure you they are not calibrated differently for a TRD Pro vs SR5 etc

I had a bad sensor as well. The dealership swap the sensor and I haven't had an issue for months now.

Theres some issue with replacing the same part twice since the design is the same moisture will still get in the part and mess it up. Im trying to be patient and really dont want to go through a lemon buy back i already have quite a few $$$$ on upgrades on it.
