I have started getting some mild pre-ignition under light acceleration. 6500 miles. Probably that shitty ethanol in the gas here! I put regular Exxon 87 octane.

    Anyone else noticed this??

Ya I have heard of complaints about pigging when using 87 octane little worse with the A/C on I tend to blend my gas I will switch back forth between the grades so it will never have just 87 octane in it.

I never noticed it stock, but I used premium. I did get it with the addition of the charger when the temps started to get warm. Cured the detonation with Sunoco 104 Unleaded.

Try getting some premium and see how it does.

104 - wish we had that kind of octane here! I'm sure premium would elminate it, but at $4.20/gal?!?!?

yeah, try a little premium. you dont have to fill up with it, just do maybe half and half. you may even cure the pinging with some 89....worth a shot anyway.

I run premium on mine and I don't have any issues. When I would run regular, I got a little rough idling.

Does gas mileage go up with higher test gas?

How much is the increase, is it worth the higher price?

It was worth about 1 mpg. That's not why I run it though.

yeah, i'd say 1, maybe a bit more, but honestly....i run mid grade and premium cause it keeps the fuel system cleaner, and the truck runs better to me on it.......i can tell a decent difference between regular and mid/premium. keeping the fuel injectors clean will result in better mileage........another reason i run it. plus, if you do the math........its really only a few $ difference if you fill up with 87 versus 89/91/93......not too much.

One grade of gas keeping the system cleaner over another is a myth - all grades have the same cleaning additives. Just the octane differs.

Run a bottle of Guaranteed to Pass throuh it every 6 months if you are worried about buildups.

I mainly use Chevron gas and used to add a bottle every once in while till I found out that all grades of Chevron gas already has techron in it.

A lot of the problems you mention and others mentioned below is because of the crappy ethanol blends. There are a few indy stations near me that are selling, and touting, their 100% gas. I fueled there a few times, with 87 octane, and there was a noticable increase in performance and economy.

Goddamn federal regulations are only doing two things, wasting gas, and reducing engine life.

Well, got me there! However, I will stand by my statement about Guaranteed to Pass - I used a single bottle in a 93 Nissan Altima with 160,000 miles on it. Shortly after, I had to pull the injector bank for another reason, and the injectors looked brand new - absolutely pristine!

OH, and I shouldn't have injector buildup after only 6500 miles.
