I just replaced mine today. I always genuine OEM filters. I have to drop the blower motor as some stuff got in it. Stupid mouse. I may have to leave my recirc door closed from now on.

I've pretty much run every brand of paper filter, including some charcoal brands. I honestly have never noticed a difference. Maybe because I change them every 5K miles along with my other 5K mile service items. There's always debris on the filter at that interval. I've been using the inexpensive TYC filters from Amazon lately.

Do a search and there are several threads on how to clean the system. First make sure you don't have anything living or dead in it, clean out any leaves or pine straw you can see then blow it out with air; I stick the crevice tool on the shop vac hose, stick that in the open air filter door then close off the vents and blow them out one by one with compressed air. About once a year I use one of the evaporator cooler cleaners too (Toyota sells a kit, part number 00289ACRKT, as do most manufacturers- save the nozzle with the hose and you can reuse it on the cheaper cans of cleaner you buy at Lowe's/HD/etc). Just follow the directions and it's easy. After that you spray the other spray as per the directions; some folks use Ozium.

We get so much pollen here that I just buy the cheap TYC filters and change them when I change my oil; I have the windows down so often the expensive filters would be a complete waste of money.

    Generic example:

Went with AC Delco. Replace them every year. Seems fine. Seen this brand in use on multiple auto makers as OEM equipment

I don't, because Fram is a garbage company

I buy the cheapest one i find that will fit. I made my own once, but its really just there to keep the junk out of the blower for me.

I just use these from Wally World, $11.00 & Made in USA:

I used to use OEM, but got tired of driving 40 miles round trip just to get a filter in stop & go traffic. Works fine for me.

other factors have to be in play here when ordering the correct filter. you can go cheap to expensive. some claim to filter out pollens. some only do bare bones keeps out dust and dirt

for me i went with K&N. why? my truck is mostly used for weekend detaways and offroading. sometimes i open the vents to let fresh air in and what not

soooo. i pull the filter out and wash it every 3 months or basically every oil change. 4 times a year. once you add up the costs it payed for itself after 1 year. and every use after that is money im saving

    Just some stuff...
This is what I've been using. I used the fram fresh breeze filter once then switched to this. Can't tell the difference honestly. I never even thought about putting stress on the blower. Now it's one more thing to worry about! Lol!

K&N for sure if you plan on keeping your truck for a long time. The filter will pay for itself after a couple of filter changes of the throw away kind

I think this post in the Tundra forum has it right. I’ve not replaced mine yet but I’ve read that the OEM filter is marked “this side up” just do what it says, for filters with an arrow for air flow point the arrow down.

Blower suction is on bottom, air flow is down. Dead giveaway - leaves and dirt are on the top of the filter so this is the inlet lol.

My mechanic replaced my cabin filter with a HEPA no name. drastically cut down the air flow. not cutting it with 100 degree temperatures. i replaced it with a EPAuto CP374 (CF10374) from Amazon for $11. Vast improvement. advertised as advanced hvac performance. certainly was in terms of air flow.

Right after I put the K&N filter in my truck I was at the dealership for routine service. They told me my air filter was dirty and needed replaced. I axed the guy if he felt lucky. He said what do you mean. I said I'll tell you what....lets walk out and pull the cabin air filter. If its dirty I'll pay you the $69.99 to replace it. If its not dirty then today's service is on the house. He didnt call my bluff and they never tried that shit with me again.
