I guess the stocks are considered "components" since they also have a tweeter in the middle (or is that not a tweeter?). Whether the 6x9 tweeter is putting out noise or not, I'm happy with the results.

A 2-way that is just a mid and bass would be great. But I think that's pretty rare.

I've only ever seen 2-ways that are bass and tweeter.

Probably going to do tweeters after I get off work in a few hours and was just wondering.. does anyone else have a dash rattle on the passenger side between the tweeter surround and the A-pillar? Especially in cold weather? I "resolved" it like 10 months ago by wedging a small cardboard tag in there but since I'm going to have both plastics off I'm wondering if I can just shave the plastic down a bit where it rubs. Sorry if this off topic!

They don't understand how the Tacoma is wired. The tweeter is a pass-through to the speaker in the door. No tweeter = no connection to the door. If you were to install a set of component speakers, you would need to connect directly to the harness for the dash tweeter, then run a new line up from the component crossover to the replacement tweeter. The Subaru tweeters are a directly replacement because they maintain the connection to the door. I would assume that it has an inline crossover to control the frequencies that the tweeter produces.

I just did a highly scientific experiment of placing my ear against my door to see if treble is coming out. It is. I think the logic is probably correct from the post above, however I suspect the way those tweeters work is they are still allowing pass through to the 3-ways. I definitely get full range of sound from my 6x9s - and they sound fantastic

This is the ONE rattle I seem to have avoided... but I can't imagine it would hurt to trim or stick some whetherstripping or something there to quiet things down more permanently

That's about as highly scientific as you need to get. It's actually the method recommended to check to see if you hooked a crossover up properly. I've built a few kit speakers in my time.

I had loose rattling cables, warped drum wobbling, door sill rattle, gas pedal numbing my foot, steering wheel unable to hold onto for long due to vibes, in my old used...no wait BRAND NEW Tacoma. Finally got most of it worked out to where I could even think about speakers as a priority!

There's a thread on this somewhere. Seems like most people resolved it with a strategically placed piece of moleskin. I'll see if I can find it.

    Edit, found it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-rattle-and-vibration-noise-resolved.462969/

They are wired in series, but I would believe that the cross-over would be only on the tweeter side as I am getting more high end that I expected, so I can only guess that my 3-ways are working.

I was guessing something along the lines of the wiring for both are connected through the plug and the dash tweeter wiring would go through the cross-after that connection. It's still in series between the two, but the wiring to the speaker itself has the cross-over to kill the lows and the door is getting full frequency range.

    A couple things
From what I saw on the replacement Subaru tweeter, this is exactly how it works. The door 6x9 is wired series to the tweeter, the high pass filter capacitor is only to the tweeter itself.

Will do, I received the Noico sound deadening sheets and have them sitting in my garage. Honestly not an urgent priority at the moment though so it may be a couple of weeks before I get to it - as it stands I can only get a rattle if I turn it to max volume / bass with a song that hits a certain bass tone (i.e. i never hear any rattling at MY normal ~60-70% volume which in my experience is still as loud if not louder than 100% volume on stock speakers). I'll definitely install when I can though, no doubt it will help both insulate the sound and curb road noise! Speakers were a quick job, for the sound deadening I want to take plenty of time to measure appropriately, roll tight, etc.,

I will say I'm pressed by the quality and heft of this budget priced Noico stuff. I had low expectations based on the price, and while it's certainly not as heavy-duty as Dynamat, its pretty heavy and seems it will do the job quite well so I'm excited to give it a try when I have the time.

Did you remove the plastic that's on the doors already or did you just adhere over the top?

It's simple, it's inexpensive (relatively speaking) and not one post in 280 has someone regretting it. Got most of stuff yesterday and the other half is coming today. I'll be in sound heaven by early next week.

Finally went for a proper drive, being able to play around with the Treble/Mid/Bass settings and WOW! The difference is amazing over stock. Very happy with this upgrade. Highly recommended!

Just remember that somewhere, back in 1967, there is an AM radio just dying to use these old door speakers.

Congrats! Mad props to @mrproduxn for being the OG on this... A few week back if someone told me a couple of Ben Franklins would turn my crappy sound system upside down I'd have walked away with skepticism. You almost always get what you pay for... but every now and again we get lucky and receive MORE than we paid for
