Can’t hurt to try. The subbies do sound amazing for sure but perhaps we’re just paying a premium for the plug n play-ability IDK! Let us know how it turns out - worse case the other tweeters will still be there and Crutchfield is great about returns

One thing worth noting, the signal from the head unit goed through the tweeters and is passed to the front door speakers. You'll have to do some custom wiring which isn't that difficult, but I wanted to make you aware of it.

Ive had these speakers in my garage for a while and will be getting my truck in a couple weeks. I honestly don't know much about audio equipment. Will these 6.5 speakers work on the rear? It includes flat ribbon type tweeters, would I just leave those out?

Those are components and if you use those tweeters you will have to do some extra wiring as they won't plug right into factory harness and if factory tweeter cable is not powered/working the door speakers won't work either. They would not sound good in the rear as they are designed to be used with those tweeters.

Thanks. I'll just sell these off and use the cash to buy the right speakers for the Taco.

6.5's will fit in the rear (assuming those don't have an insanely big mounting depth). As for the ribbon's...that would be a new one for me. I've only seen them in home theater setups, not in a vehicle (although I knew it was something that people have done).

As for putting those in the rear, I'm not sure where you'd want to mount the ribbon's without some modification to the door itself. If you have any rear passengers, would not recommend using just the 6.5's without the tweeters tho. It will sound horrible to them because you are only using them as rear filler speakers at that point...

You might be able to put this component up front without much issue/modification of the stock tweeter location. Of course, it all depends how big those tweeters are.

Most people have been happy with the JBL speakers mentioned a lot in this thread. Beyond that, there is a lot of good info scattered throughout this thread that goes beyond just simple plug and play:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-bbp-audio-build.430252/

Most 6x9's or 6.5 speakers (components or coaxials) will fit our Tacos up front (only 6.5's in the back). You actually go slightly bigger up front if you can make the right adapter and the mounting depth isn't too deep. The biggest limiting factor is usually your budget. :)

For installation instructions, the video that OEM+ made (specifically for the 3rd gen) is a great video. It has been posted and reposted all over this forum, so it should be an easy search...

That works for a single (mono) amp yes. So just a subwoofer no speakers ran on it. If you want to run a lc7 or 5 channel amp to power speakers/sub you need to follow the directions here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-bbp-audio-build.430252/

Page 1 and 7. I just followed them and created this to run to my amp.

As if 70 pages of positive feedback wasn't enough, I'll pile on and report that I did the tweeters only. Wow! This is easily the best $100 I've spent on a car. I bought off Amazon because... Prime shipping.

No hassles, and the whole thing took less than 30 minutes. Thanks TW!

It sounds fine. It's not going to thump really hard but it fills in the low end and gives a little more oomph to the bass. If you've ever had a factory sub before, it's similar to that. I read the Amazon reviews before I bought it. The only thing that concerned me were the people that had failed units soon after use but who knows if they even wired it correctly.
