The look I'm going for is early 1900's bolted connection / big timber / factory / workshop , which is something you see a lot around the old part of Victoria BC

all those buildings were un-adorned , un-stained local Douglas Fir timbers , so I won't be staining the timbers and may not even seal coat the interior timbers at all

    Drywall all primed

I'll paint this week and then we can think about interior electrical and plumbing finishes

In other news I also ordered my strip lights

    32 watt , 4300 lumen , 5000K , 80+ CRI

Should be plenty bright enough in there

Shop is looking great. Better than great.
Can you tell me more about these strip lights? Source? I’ve just started exploring the world of strip lighting, but do need some that are waterproof for the pit in my shop.

I'm using made in Canada , EE Lighting 4' LED strip lights

Not waterproof but rated for damp conditions . You might want to look into vapour tight fixtures

The ones I'm getting are coming from Nedco , they are a Western Canada distributor

Those should light your shop up nicely. A buddy has some similar in his shop from Lithonia and they’re amazingly bright, and give very even lighting.

I have looked at various 4’ vapour lights, and am also considering low voltage (probably 24V) adhesive led strip lights (IP67 + waterproof) in an aluminum diffuser channel, since they are a much lower profile. I don’t have it all figured out yet, we’ll see.

I end up at almost bang on 100 lumens / square foot which is the recommended light level for a wood working shop

I'm curious on the cost difference between stick framing and timber framing. Enjoying reading the build with all it's thousands of small details that you've had plan ahead for.

A timber framed building is considerably more expensive than a conventional stick framed building due to costs associated with the material and labour to cut the frame joinery but also in the less conventional means necessary for services , insulation etc .

This building is not a timber frame , and could only mildly be considered a hybrid. My timber connections are not traditional joinery and in fact when you pare down whats going on structurally with the timber 'trusses' , they aren't even a truss. The only elements that are doing any structural work are the bottom chord 4x12's and the 6x6 post . The timber rafter element of the truss is essentially decorative and just there so the assembly looks like a truss . The conventional 2x12 rafters span from a 3 ply 2x12 ridge beam up in the rafter plane supported on the 6x6 posts out to the exterior walls .

I had to go back and refresh my memory of what the roof framing looked like.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...op-already-build.666783/page-34#post-24934895

I have to admit I don't think I ever noticed that before.

Just finished up all the painting

Took a picture but it looks exactly like the priming picture above , you get the idea

My lights arrived at my electrician's shop today , maybe next week I can get those guys back and have all the electrical finishing completed

Next up for me I need to make a vanity box for the bathroom so my plumber can finish up then inside is complete as far as services go

    Yeah.
This is great! My lease is up in a few days and I don't want to be peeing in your bushes.

Seriously, though, one day I hope to have a shop half as nice as this one.

Today I picked up some 3/4" Birch C2 plywood and started cutting the components for the lower cabinets in the bathroom for the sink and the cabinet that will house the small compressor and hydronic heating manifold .

I decided to try to build it all without a tablesaw so I'm going full TS55 track saw attack , 105" track with parallel guides for ripping and 52" track with the TSO GR16 rail square for crosscutting

Got sides , tops and bottoms cut , tomorrow I'll finish cutting the rest of the parts and start assembly

Other thing that happened today is the tool guy / assistant manager at my local lumber supply knows I'm building a shop and they are changing their store around a bit and he texted me today and asked if I wanted all these metal case / plastic bin fastener cases ..... for free
