Why would you ever want to do this? Wouldn't it be less painful to just sell it and get a 4x4? Maybe it's just my age talking because when I was younger I probably would have done this but as I get older I get wiser....I think;)

here is some reading for you.

to SAS with good parts your lookin around 3k+
to do a PreRunner to 4x4 coverstion is about 1500 depending on how hard you look for decent used parts from a 4x4 truck

all the parts are going to cost me 2400 bucks for shipping and all. there out in Cali and im here in Texas. i cant find any place here in the fort worth area that even carries 4x4 Taco parts. and when i got a nibble they would just tell me they sold it the "other day" lol IMO its an awesome deal. and i have had my truck up for sale on C-list for a couple of months and have had it on AutoTrader for a few weeks and im tired of people flaking out at the last minute or not having enough cash! so i called these guys up and they had all the parts off an 03 so i can put it on my 01! Woot!

dude 2400 seams really high for a bunch of used parts, i am sure if you shop around and just wait some you will fine someone that has a set off a SAS project you could get for little or nothing.

I with you. Meanwhile I have a shitload of asshats on other Tacoma forums (wont mention which ones) giving me crap for dumping a DB 6" TM lift (yes, replacing #2 crosmember.....oh the horror! ;) ) Seriously, I want the reliability of my 1st Gen Taco (Im on my 3rd) If I wanted a 4x4 Toyota SA, I'd get another 85 SR5 EFI. I had a 85, 83 & 82 4x4 Toyota. They were awesome. But its hard to beat late model Taco's as a DD with great weekend fun capabilities

Well my thinking is A: Who's got the time to do this stuff? B: how long is the downtime? I would need to get to work Monday morning. C: what does it do to the resale? I for one would steer clear of a converted Prerunner. That's just me though. If you got the drive to do it than go for it I guess. Post up some pics!

Yeah, good luck with that. I manage a body shop for a living. I deal ONLY with local salvage yards, and still have problems with the CRAP they send. Your out of state and if something is wrong (and trust me after 30yrs in the biz, there WILL be), your also shit out of luck. Now take that 2400.00 and TRIPLE it to have whatever they sent you 'useable' Factor in labor, hardware, misc shit you WILL forget, or didnt think of. Maybe my experiance, age and occupation make me exteremely cynical?

Not cynical, just realistic. Unfortunately I think you are dead on with this one.

lol all i know is im excited. my girlfriend has two cars. and all of this comes with warranty. and the funny thing is when i was listing the parts i needed (i got to about the 4th one), and he tell asks me, "oh your converting your prerunner to 4x4?" i was like, "yah..." lol then he told me he would get the list going and email me it. so obviously he/them have done/delt with this before. so im not worried about really. im just pumped i get to work with me hands and fix a problem!
