I’m sure it’s old but I’m converting my prerunner to 4wd. I have a front diff,FJ tcase and a taco 4wd trans. What else would I need before tear down? What have you guys done for the front diff actuator to work?
    TIA

Better and easier just to buy a 4x4 and sell yours.

I've got an extra driver's side front diff mount I'll sell ya if you want it. Way cheaper than buying it from a dealer ship. Shoot me a PM if you're interested

Thanks my brothas. It’s 08 prerunner I have and not sure if they have manual locking hubs conversion. I have a 4wd 6speed already. I just would love to manually shift that tcase when I want like old times.

This guy has a great thread on his conversion and also manual hubs https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/free-wheel-manual-hubs-conversion-kit.511528/

The RST guy is a fraud now so you gotta make your own. Here’s a decide write up, post #176

IF I were to put that much effort, money and time into it I would convert it to a solid axle up front with locking hubs.

I wish you well my friend. You will have days you will regret this choice. Hopefully it will work out for the good in the end.

Dont let naysayers make your choices. Lots have done it. It can be done under $2k. More than a dozen threads with all sorts of good info.

folks that say it’s too hard or not worth it are likely the same people that pay jiffy lube to change their oil.

absolutely, so if you have the money for it and don't feel like doing it then paying for a service is an option. But what is "worth" to some people to DIY, may not be "worth" to others. If you have customized your truck to the point that selling and starting over would cost more than doing a 4x4 swap, then financially doesn't seem worth it. If you can get a good deal on selling your pre-runner and want to trade up for a 4x4, why not do it then (assuming you aren't emotionally attached to having YOUR truck). But for someone to make a generic statement to say it's not worth it is not accurate and discourages people. It will also teach you alot about truck maintenance and repair in the process.

If you take your time, source the parts, and do the swap yourself, 9 times out of 10 it will be cheaper than trying to sell a pre-runner and buying a 4x4 from what I see used truck prices going for. But again, if you don't have the knowledge, skill, or time to do the swap, then maybe it's worth it to you to just sell your current truck and buy a 4wd. Might also depend on the condition of the current truck (does it need engine rebuild, how is the body panels, frame condition, etc.), no sense in dumping a bunch of money converting a turd prerunner into a turd 4x4.

    Yep. This.
Nearly 10 years of slowly building. Definitely cheaper than taking everything off and selling/buying and paying taxes replacing a truck that’s been paid off for years. Not to mention the memories. Had it when the wife and I met. Both kids brought home in it and now yelling ‘dada’s truck truck’ whenever they see it. It’s not going anywhere.
