Prerunner to 4x4 Conversion

so I'm going to use a 4x4 driveshaft how do you adjust the crossmember for the carrier bearing?

 

The 4x4 mounting holes for the crossmember are on every frame. You can grind off the rivets and move the crossmember to the rear 4 holes using nut/bolts.

I’ve seen guys take angle steel or flat bar and just make extensions off the crossmember but I’m not sure how sustainable that would be long term.

 

Yeah look at the first pic on this page the holes arent there either.

I use angle iron to move the mount back. Bolted it to the stock holes and bolted the bearing to new holes. Has worked great and has given me no issues.

 

The carrier bearing on 4X4 models has two angles to fill the gap.

 

What are you referring to? I think he means that the carrier bearing mount is in a different spot on a 4x4 driveshaft

 

Oh I forgot to tell yall I figured it out. The 4x4 driveshaft barely fit with out modding or moving the crossmember, but it fit that's all the maters. And its driving great.

 

Most people have to extend the carrier bearing a few inches back. You didnt have to do anything for the rear driveshaft?

 

This is what I did. I modified the mount to be a little further back

 

Nope had to muscle it back a little to line up but no vibration or anything.

 

I just had a driveshaft shop cut my prerunner shaft and mount the carrier back in the stock location. Going to be the strongest that way. Probably better balanced as well since its not a out of the box shaft anymore.

probably doesnt have enough spline in the shaft at that point.

street truck or do you flex offroad at all? Im betting you don't have enough spline engagement then.
