I will be using this for a pic dump of my 4x4 swap in my prerunner. Since I realized this was possible I researched as much as I could to gather info on it so if anyone else wants to know the process I will try to make this as comprehensive as possible. I am starting out with a 6 speed and using an FJ t case along with a non-ADD front diff out of a 4runner. By doing this I eliminate all of the electronics with the tcase and diff and dont have any 4wd ecu to deal with.IMG_3291.jpg

Is the ratio the same from the 4runner front diff?

I like the cut of your jib Sir!

Less elctrogizmodoz the better I say. I want to do an FJ case swap too, been on my list for a while. And tripple sticks! Mmm... Front digs...

What year 4Runner? I assume 4th gen. but V6 or V8 (AWD vs 4WD) is the diff still ADD? Going with manual hubs too?

    Also: Subbed!

Yeah the front diff is out of a 2014 v8 4 runner so that is AWD I believe, unfortunately there is no option for manual hubs for a 2nd gen that I know of besides SAS... so my front drive line will always be spinning just enages 4x4 at the tacse

Quick question, does anyone know if your 4x4 spindles are a smooth bore all the way thru? I am trying to press in the dust caps on the back side and they dont even seem close??

Now I'm right confused! The 2014 would be a 5th gen with the 1GR. A V8 was never an option for the 5th gen. The 4ths 03-09 got the 2U V8 as an option.

Where did you buy your diff from?

You are correct the diff is out of an 09, it was an ebay special which I went through and rebuilt new seals hardware, bearings were okay

From what I remember the prerunner spindles should be the same as the 4x4? the only difference being the dust caps for the different hub designs?

The 6 speed FJ is all wheel drive. So will you be AWD? That's cool if so

Why would you do this? I've read from all the internet experts that this isn't worth it and you should just trade your truck in. Plus it kills your resale value. :notsure:

I assume you figured out that the FJ t-case needs to be modified to fix your 6 speed trans?

Nice. Sounds like you've done your research. Can't wait to see pictures of it finished.

The front driveline is on and everything is all buttoned up.

First thing was mounting the diff and getting all the fasteners snugged up, having everything relatively clean helped a ton. I know that my chassis had all the 4x4 mounting locations but never fully believed it until the diff was sitting up there..

    IMG_3350.jpg

The only thing that I had issues with was the dust caps on the spindles the ones I got were not close to pressing in and I guess I did have the ones that go on the CV housings so I will need to order those and pull it apart and put it all back together. luckily everything is clean and fresh so it shouldnt take to long the second time around.
