Prewired" backup camera 2008 taco ??

Is my 2008 Sr5 prewired ? If I wanted to add a backup camera how would I do it ? Any answer or link appreciated. Thanks in advance.

 

Start by looking in the tailgate area. Is there a harness that goes into the gate?

Or just pull the tailgate liner off. The wire with a connector should be there to receive a camera plug if it is prewired. If it is take a very clear pic of the plug, so if you shop for a used or eBay camera, you can be sure to get the right one.

If it is prewired, you should also have a harness plug somewhere over the mirror area. And you'll need the correct mirror for the harness. There are different mirrors that will have various combinations of functions, but suspect if you are prewired, you'd be able to run any correct mirror and get full function.

 

I don't think the camera option was available until either 2009 or 2012, so I don't think our 08's are prewired for it.

A lot of it is just running wires and mounting the camera where you want it. And if you want it on an aftermarket radio or the oem style mirror. If you with the mirror then you'll need to get the mirror and run the cable up the A-pillar and over to the mirror under the headliner. If for the radio then run the wire from under the driver seat and under the center console and up to the radio from behind.

You'll have to remove the A-pillar to run the wire behind it. I think its just 2 bolts and then it pops off. Once off you should be able to tug on the headliner to pop it undone just enough to run the liner. Never removed a headliner before but I think it's just snapped in for the most part. Not positive though.

 

Thanks. I've never done it either. I do 99% of work on my Taco but never this.

 

For the headliner you only need to have the leading edge pryed down a bit (not undone) to tuck the wire.

I have my SCII above my mirror. I used a plastic bike tire tool to manipulate the headliner while I fed the cable across. Easy peasy.
