I'll usually take the online prices from different places, bring them up on my cell phone, and walk into the BX/PX/NEX on base and they price match without any hesititation (plus tax free). saved $50 on a 16g ipod touch and over $300 on a TV

If you hate these companies so much, why are you so worried that you can't do business with them?

    Don't act so dismayed.

It's always B&M vs. B&M or online vs. online
If you can get a B&M to match an etailer, you scored a coup !

The only company I know of that price matches other B&M and etailers is DT. They'll even price match their own discount tire direct and other DTs.

On the local news the other day they said that Wally World was now price matching online prices, but you had to have your smart phone to show them the price. I find this hard to believe. And I don't have a smart phone so...............? Can I print it out to show them?

The other thing with price matching is some places like Wal-Mart work deals with manufacturers to have "exclusive" models. In other words one tv at the other stores may look identical but the Wally World one may have a slightly different model # with one minor feature that is different. So you can't price match. I've seen this personally in the past.

Well I'm sure they may a bean counter and the math says they are better off not selling u the tv for 800. But I agree its annoying the comercial should sound like a prescription comercial and have a list of do not apply at the end. Lol take this for ur headache but 77% of the time u will bleed from the ass

X2 The old rule of thumb is generally a B&M will not price match an online only retailer. Like you said, if they do it's a deal.

That's because the guy at Best Buy does not work on commission. He doesn't care what the TV sells for and probably recognized that the online price beats any price matching constraints that were set for the TV.

If you find them not price matching Amazon offensive this will blow your mind.
Wal-mart does not price match walmart.com.

Pay up the $80 or so annual membership fee for Amazon Prime and have the damn TV overnighted for $3.99. Yesterday I overnighted (Sat delivery too) a set of rechargeable batteries - because I can. Oh, and I'm sorry if I offend you, but stop whining about B&M price matching online stores. Your sense of entitlement disturbs me.

PC/laptop markup is about 2 to 10%, while printers, and such have about 30%. Home electronics can be marked up from 50 to 100%. (used to be a manager for Best Buy  )

How long ago? Because I know for a fact as of 5 years back there was nowhere near 30% markup on the majority of printer models.

Pricing information from before the rise of e-tailing doesn't count ;)

Yeah, this was when they first came to AZ. Back when the Employee discount was "Cost + 5%". I have friends that manage retail stores (Not Best Buy), and we have talked about the markup of electronics every so often. Granted now days, the markup isnt what it once was, but its still an pretty fair amount. However, you are correct about the markup being much more on accesories, and such.

Our employee disco was cost + 5 as well. That got you about 6 bucks off a printer, but I bought $350 of USB cable for about 20 bucks one time as well.

It was ok, but I could still often beat my employee discount price on the web. Anyway, quit them when I started graduate school, so I'm about 7 years outta the loop now.

Yeah, The discount varied alot on what you got. I was there before E-sales and such. I once got a Sony bookshelf stereo ($399.00 retail) for 105 bucks. but I didnt buy my computer stuff there.....'course, this was back when my laptop had a whopping 40MB hard drive.......which was huge at the time.
