for cutting the weatherstrip, i had some spacers that did not fit right where the screw is, and im debating on just cutting the weatherstrips just to fit the placements. did anyone do that method?

I do have an old Stop sign in my garage...

What I kind of though of last night was do take some small square tubing and a sheet of Aluminum and go perpendicular to the crossbars and have them attach to the crossbars that have the feet on them. The square tubing would bolt to the aluminum sheet to give it support and to give support for the tire. Only thing I have to figure out is that I don't want it to raise the tire up more, so need to figure that part out.

I thought about it Joe, but the issue is that they are not supported underneath, so would still have the same issue.

Yes, just cut them. I kind of felt like I wasted a LOT of time on mine and still ended up with a subpar placement that was "off" in some places. In the end, I just took the weatherstrip and rack off altogether, doused it with more silicone and cut to fit. You can never actually see that part of the weatherstrip anyway. When I was done, I added a bit more silicone around the spacers after I had it all reinstalled to ensure a good seal.

What about rotating a bar, say the one that sits close to centre under your wheel 90* so it sits vertical and takes a lot more weight that way..?
Simple and easy to rotate back when no spare is up there..

So take one of the crossbars and make it perpendicular to the other crossbars underneath the wheel?

    Exactly!
this one here, take out one bolt on each side, tip 90* and it should keep all three crossbars from bending in theory..

Ah, I see what you mean, will have to see if that works. Not sure as there is not a hole to be able to put it in that configuration.

I thought you meant take it out completely and attach it to the crossbars down the middle perpendicular to the other crossbars.

Has anyone created a round cross bar (like a classic Yakima round bar) that can be used for the rear behind the shark fin? Notice that when I have weight on it, it tends to want to rotate around some since it only as the one screw. Thinking a round bar would be better for being able to easily slide longer items over it and prevent rotation of mounts and such.

I have seen someone do this before but can't recall who it was. I like the idea. I recall they used a tube from one of those style racks and then installed a bicycle headset plug for a threaded insert. I was considering doing the same to get my RTT on one man-ed. Flip the tent up on the tailgate and then slide it onto the roof.

Works fine, escpecially if just occasional. We 3gens have to run our furtherst back bar vertical all the time. Just tighten the two existing bolts good and it's solid AF

I think I am going to see if just putting some square tubing perpendicular to the crossbars and have them attach on the crossbars that the feet are also on that it should help support it more. I would really like to get a basket or something with a fairing to mount up there as that would be better weight distribution. But I need something done on it by Sunday.

Is there a specific reason you don't want to store it in the stock location?

Clearance mainly, plus will have a new wheel hopefully soon to match the others on the truck.

Not sure what size your wheel setup is right now, but I would hate lugging mine up and down from there. The stocker isn't too heavy, but my spare 255/85/16 km2 is a pig. Looks like it'll barely fit under the bed with an exhaust hanger relocation. I'd look into a swing out bumper or one of wilco's offerings if you go to a full size matching spare.
