    Well .... they told me a rebuilt tranny is $4300 :eek: NOT . So they are going to check wiring harness again and I told them to pull the sensor and reinstall it. See if a new adjustment on that sensor does it . If not I will be picking it up tomorrow and get a pan drop ,check the magnets and strainer and go from there . Dealer also said it seems to do it in the morning when it’s cold and other than that it shifts good . But I have had it do it after driving anywhere from 10 miles to 25 to 75 it has a mind of its own . Let ya know what happens ,thanks again !

    Have they diagnosed the trans with a scan tool to at least see what the line pressure is during gear engagement..

    I’m am now being told it must be internal although no codes . All electrical having to do with transmission is good . Service manager confirmed fluid level is good . I was told that maybe after running it with the new fluid after a while maybe the hesitation will stop o_O he also said it could be developing a small leak somewhere inside ? Or stuck solenoid. Pretty scary that it’s this difficult to figure out . So ,picking it up tomorrow , and next Friday pan will be dropped ,strainer replaced , magnets checked and Lubegard added !:thumbsup:

    Do you have any other ideas what this could be now that electronic stuff has been ruled out . Maybe stuck solenoid ?

    My mechanic , not Toyota . Confirmed it is a Toyota sensor and the dealer checked it today and said it was good .

    I just don't understand how it was fine...

    Got the code for the range sensor which is common enough to see if you do a little looking around....

    Replaced... Fixed... But now delayed engagement..

    I would be asking if the line pressure is at spec..

    How can they not diagnose this? Toyota has flow charts for this stuff... ?

    The code popped up during my stalling issue in February. Replaced sensor and stalling went away but now hesitates going in D . No more codes now .

    Well, I feel like that might be the best next step...

    If the truck went through the range of gears properly before the original sensor conked out, the new one might be the issue..

    Can't say for sure.. But if it "was" working before the new one... Maybe?


    I do feel as if the Range sensor would either work, or not.. That seems to be how all of them work..

    Delayed engagement could be some sort of a fail safe, but you would expect an accompanying MIL with a specific code...?

    My mechanic already told me not a problem returning the one he installed for another .Have to give it a shot . He can’t get me in until May 4 th .Kinda sucks ,really want to figure this out .

    I would say that is the next best step..

    Because the next one after that your foots gunna get wet...lol

    If the line pressure checks out, you will have to look at the valve body... I'm not familiar with the Toyota transmissions... I'm more of a GM guy..



    This is going to be something dumb..

    I wouldn't rush into the lubegard...

    Wait for your buddy to swap out the range sensor... If he is willing to do that, then he must feel the same about it being a possible issue.. Even though it checks out at the dealer... (Which I think is bogus they tested it because that takes a ton of effort measuring resistance and voltage)

    If it does end up being the valve body, there is usually reliable fixes for this sort of thing instead of additives full of friction modifiers you have no idea what are doing to your clutches..

    Sonnax for instance, they are big in GM... They supply kits with reamers and oversized plungers..

    They also sell different sorts of check balls and pressure plates... This may be resolved with you having a fully checked out slush box...

    Keep us posted on the range sensor results..
