I wonder why a boost a pump style system wouldn't work with our pumps? Returnless Mustangs have been running them 2+ decades without issue. Is it truly an issue with the pump or tuning?

You'd have to ask OVTune about that, I don't know the answer. I doubt he has a particularly strong desire to get pulled into this thread, but here's a link to the post I screenshotted, could ask him there:

I am +2” w/ 35’s and 4.88’s and the low octane tune, but running premium. I have been following all three threads for a while. The TT is the one, but too many problems as of yet. The Magi is next, but bang for buck is weak. I’m enjoying my popcorn waiting for one of the three to be what it can be.

The Ford Ranger is doing the 4-Cyl turbo. It ought to be interesting to see what Toyota’s version looks like.

personally, I’d rather see an inline 6 with a turbo. It’s not like there isn’t room under the hood.

wont happen, toyota needs an engine that they can mount in multiple platforms. V's can be mounted either way for RWD or FWD cars

I know why they do it... it’s all a compromise.

Quite literally exactly how I’m feeling. Originally I was going to get the Magnuson as quickly as possible. But having driven turbo charged cars for almost the entirety of my adult life, I kind of want to see where these twin turbo kit’s go especially if the tundra is going to be a twin turbo on the same platform next year (speculation of course). I’m at 1000 miles now; I’m hoping by 10,000 miles given that’s roughly what I do in a year that this s—t will be sorted out. Would love to put this engine under load with forced induction

The torque of the Turbocharged I6 would be insane. Even any NA I6 is great for low end torque. For example, look at the HO 4.0 I6 jeep engine.

My favorite was my buddies 1990 4.9 I6 Ford F-150, did break stands in his driveway in 2nd gear. That thing was a freaking beast.

    High school fun...

The old Ford 300 (4.9L) was a beast!

OP: did you ever end up checking over the kit or revisiting the idea of a retune, or anything else really, to see if the performance would improve?

In the mid 90’s I had a slightly lifted XJ with the 4.0 I6 and a 5 speed. It had a Borla header and a full 2.5” exhaust on it. One time I got pulled over, the cop said he heard a motorcycle looked around and all he saw was me. It was a screamer for sure!

I emailed Torqstorm about a possible Tacoma fitment. He said I’m only the second person in 5 years to inquire about this. If enough people request it, they would build a kit. A supercharger for half the cost of a Magnusson or TRD.

sounds like we need to start getting people to ask about a Tacoma kit.

then it will take another year of development and production?

I’m very late to this topic but I wanted to point out (if I recall correctly) that Motortrend typically reads 0-60 times at the point the wheel stops spinning off the line - which usually shaves at least a full second off of all 0-60 times. On top of that, Motortrend doesn’t care about the vehicle they are doing the sprint with so they’ll have no qualms about doing a clutch dump or a brake hold at 5K+ rpms - which again will make a huge difference in a 0-60 time run.

Both of those points in mind - all 0-60 times with them typically look great by comparison to another reading times as soon as they see the speedometer twitch. I guarantee if Motortrend launched a Procharger infused V6 Taco they’d report a 5.5-6 second 0-60 sprint or something along those lines.

Another thing to consider is bigger, heavier wheels and tires which, as we all know, adding weight is the biggest hindrance for a faster 0-60.

There’s my 2¢ nobody asked for lol
