Proper Lube for 4x4 slip joint?

    So i have seen vastly different opinions on lube for the slip joint on the rear driveshaft of the 4x4 2nd gen tacos. Im gonna be hitting 100k miles here soon an am going to go through the truck front to rear and get everything that isnt a normally scheduled lube item, this includes the rear (and front) slip joint on the driveshafts.

    I have seen from standard grease, to moly specific fancy $$$ grease.

    Whats yalls opinion?

    That's what I use. It has 65% moly- the typical moly fortified greases only have a few percent. It's enough to last a lifetime and more if you only use it for the splines. I primarily use it on puller screw threads.

    Edit- here's mine with 110K miles- pretty dry. I took both clamps off, but you only need to remove the larger one. You can reuse them if you're careful- I did. I couldn't find any replacements locally but Napa said they can order them

    Splines and screw threads are extreme pressure interfaces- this is where moly excels because the moly particles are left behind to lubricate as the carrier agent is squeezed out. IIRC, Dana says NGLI 2 grease is ok, and anything is better than nothing. If you google it, you'll see that spline drive lubrication is a big issue on motorcycles and high percentage moly, >60%, is what the manufacturer's recommend.

    The factory stuff is black and extremely thick IIRC, never been able to find it but the stuff you linked should be fine IMHO

    Awesome! thanks guys! I figured a super high moly content would be ideal for such a situation, I have used similar on input / output splines on shaft driven motorcycles like mentioned just wanted to make sure it was OK with the coating thats already on the slip joint.
