Hi everyone. I have a brand new 2021 Tacoma TRD OR manual trans and I'm hearing this pump-like sound for about 1-2 seconds every other time I press the brakes. It's pretty noticeable. I can also feel a vibration through the brake pedal when it's making this sound. The brake pedal also sounds a bit squeeky/squishy compared to any other vehicle I've driven. Truck has 300 miles on it.

I just wanted to reach out the the community and see if anyone else has experienced this? Is it normal? I might take it to the dealer unless this is common.

I've uploaded a video to YouTube where you can hear the sound I'm talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3NDWGJM5Rs

The best I could find was this other TW thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/abs-pump.705925/#post-25047213 and this blog post http://www.diy-time.com/automotive/...ator-brake-booster-pump-on-toyota-lexus-cars/ that mentions a faulty brake actuator/booster pump.

    Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's the pressure building back up because you're a discerning gentleman and bought the good Tacoma with the electronic brake booster.

That doesn’t sound right mine doesn’t make noise like that . Best way to check to make sure the brake booster is working properly is to turn the truck off . Then slightly press the pedal u should feel it sink in . If it doesn’t and feels hard than you have a issue .

Thanks that's good to know. So when I press the brake with the truck off it feels exactly the same as if the engine was on, for about 4-7 presses, and also makes that squishy type sound.. On the last press, it gets stiff. After that, pressing the brake pedal feels distinctly more linear with less resistance and no longer makes a squishy sound. Once I turn the truck back on, I can hear that noise for a good 10-20 seconds, presumably as it's building up pressure again. Hopefully that makes sense.

Haven't taken it to the dealer yet but may try to early next week (out of town from tomorrow till Sunday). I gotta call them anyway for something else so I'll ask about it then too.

    Nice avatar btw

    Ha thanks.

Well, gather some info here and compare it to what your dealer says I guess. I will say that my OR doesn't sound like that.

You shouldn’t have to press it several times . Just rest your foot on it with truck off it will expel the air out and the pedal will sink . Hope that helps best of luck .

My 2017 Taco just started making the same noise. Goes for a bit on key ignition and hear it every other brake pedal push. Brake Pedal is also firm with ignition off.

What did you end up doing to get this fixed?
